Windows 10: Repeated failure to update windows 10 from build 1909 to 2004 after downloading all files...

Over several months I have encountered consistent failures in my attempts to update windows 10 from build 1909 to 2004 after watching the lengthy download of presumably all files and giving permission to complete the final step? of installing the upgrade of WINDOWS 10 Pro from build 1909 to 2004 which involves a reboot of my ASUS model Q525 2-in-1 notebook which has an x64 -base I7 with 8 cores? CPU, with 16 Gb RAM and SSD drives. After a reboot, I watch the system install to as much as 91% completion, but have not noted an error message. When I noticed that the system has rebooted and has prompted me for my encrypted disk password, I give the password, then I log onto my administrative account, go to the settings app and am greeted with the message,


"Feature updated to Windows 10, version 2004.

We couldn't install this update, but you can try again 0x8007001f

The next version of Windows is available with new features and security improvements.

When you're ready for the update, select download and install."


When I do that, I get the same failure outcome; sometimes with different hex code listed.

upgrade from win10 build 1909 to build 2004.....

Here is how to upgrade to version 2004

Way 1. Open Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update

Way 2. Go to https://microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 then download the Windows 10 Upgrader App

Windows 10 1903 1909 repeated failure to update

Well would't you know it. I did everything, every step, all the suggestions, months of failed downloads and was going to wipe everything tomorrow and start again, but remembered I hadn't tried your suggestion of updating to 1809 before 1903/09, and blow
me down, but it's updated to 1809 with ease!

I have yet to dare to try and get it to update to 1909 but it's the 1st progress in months, so thanks.

 

Windows 10 forced download

To stop the download, uninstall the KB3035583 update (under "Control Panel > Windows Update > Installed Updates").


To get rid of the C:\$Windows.~BT folder:

• Right-click on your C: drive.
• Select "Properties".
• Click on [ Disk Cleanup ]
• After the initial scan: If you have a [ Clean up system files ] button, click it and wait for the second scan to finish.
• Scroll down the list and look for "Temporary Windows installation files" (its size should be in the gigabytes range); check the box.
• Click on [ OK ] to start the clean-up.
