  1. Replaced a hard drive and now my windows 10 won't boot

So the title is a good summary, but here's the long version.I have a windows 10 install on my ssd, the installation is rather old, as it was a windows 7 to 10 free upgrade. Back then I had an HDD. For some weird reason that HDD had a faulty installation of windows 10 as well, which made it so whenever I booted my PC i had to pick the SSD install.A couple days ago I upgraded my system to a newer one that uses GPT instead of MBR, so I had to upgrade my drives MBR to GPT to get back into my install. Problem is, my cat killed my HDD after I got it out of my PC while upgrading.I had bought an M.2 d

  2. Can't get replacement hard drive to boot

The boot sector on my Windows 10 HP ProBook 650 laptop went bad. I purchased a replacement 1 TB hard drive, connect it to my laptop with a SATA to USB cable, set up partitions identical to those on my laptop and used xcopy to copy my files to their corresponding partitions on the new drive and set the partition to "active" and installed it in the laptop. When I power it up, it will not boot. I have followed various troubleshooting steps I found online but none worked.

Can anyone suggest some possible solutions?

    Thanks

    DH

System corruption can cause issues detecting your computer's hard drive. For us to properly investigate on your concern, we'd like to confirm the following information:

    • On which cases do you receive the startup error?
    • Aside from replacing the hard drive, have you made any significant changes to your device prior to this happening?
    • Have you tried plugging in the replaced hard drive to another computer to check if the same thing occurs?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Replaced a hard drive and now my windows 10 won't boot

[Confusion] Hard drive won't boot. Caused by video card?

Did you install Windows with all your other hard drives plugged in? If you did, removing them when you boot Windows will fail, because Windows dumps boot flags on every drive when its first installed. That's why people always recommend disconnecting every single hard drive besides your C:\ drive when doing a fresh install.

As for your initial problem, the GPU being reinstalled and suddenly Windows won't boot - tried safe mode? (Spam F9 when your computer is loading)
