Windows 10: Replacement for my nvidia GT 610 - what would you suggest.

My PC is very modest - but I believe that the fitted nvidia GT610 graphics card restricts performance somewhat.

I use windows 10 32 bit (Vers 1703 os build 15063.540) - have 4 Gb ram - Gigabyte H61M-S2PV M/B -
Intel Core i3 2130 processor.

Your thoughts and recommendations for a new/used card (preferably nVidia) would be very much appreciated.

win 10 incompatible with nvivia video card

I now realize that Microsoft will not send me my free upgrade because of this perceived incompatibility.

Apparently I have no choice in this matter.

I am still considering getting the NVidia graphics card GT 610 as suggested, but may also have to replace my power supply. Am unsure of what/where to seek a power supply for this ~6 year old desktop computer.

There is much to consider, such as how do I get my free Win 10 upgrade if Microsoft will not send it?

For a mid range, the GTX 1060 is an excellent choice. Of course brand specific is a personal choice.

 

I agree, my GTX 1060 is good enough to keep FPS around 60 in the games I play. (mainly the Witcher series and GTA5 with a few shooters mingled in.)

 

Thanks guys for your input.... really the GTX 1060 is way out of my league - I should have mentioned that I am not a game player, and no way would I shell out that sort of dosh for a card.

I am slightly confused by your system specs, you say you have a desktop machine but your case is a laptop??

 

You would be looking to GT 1030 Graphics Card the power requirements are roughly the same as your current one, 30 w or so.
Brings you forward by 2 generations. Possibly GT 710/720 but does not bring you much further forward.

Using 32 bit Windows and 4 GB RAM restricts your performance to an extent.

sorry about the system confusion - my enquiry really centres around my desktop PC as indicated in my post.
I have 3 laptops + 2 desktop PC's, and would be reluctant to list them all. Obviously the laptop shown was from a previous post.

Thanks for the suggestion - will take a close look at this. Might also consider some additional memory (another 4Gb perhaps)

 

Good idea that, more memory I mean. Might help enough that you won't need a new gpu ........ possibly.

 

You can list up to two computers on your profile on this forum. A lot of us do this including me.

 

If the 1060 is out of the question; then the next closest GPU would be the 1050. The price range is from $114 to $209. This also includes some of the 1050 Ti's.

 

Get a GT 1030, and upgrade to 8GB (just buy another 4GB stick).

Trust me, you don't want your system to depend too much on page file when you browse the internet.

 

Ok, so you run a 32-bit OS and don't play games.

I see no point in upgrading your GPU nor adding another 4GB of RAM. Total waste of money.

Start by switching your system harddrive to an SSD. I bet that is your bottleneck.

I have been running latest Windows 10 on much older hardware and less RAM than yours without issues. Those machines of mine don't even have a dedicated GPU.

I just feel that the MB has more to give, but is being restricted. Since I started this thread, I did suddenly realise that I have never used the onboard graphics.
A quick changeover late last night has resulted in a slightly slicker response, less 'drag' - and I feel sure this is a genuine enhancement (rather than a hoped for outcome).
PC now running Intel (R) HD graphics.
As to the memory, I am conscious that the MB will apparently accept up to 16Gb, from this I detect the the manufacturers themselves are telling me something, and I would be foolish to ignore this possible route.
