  1. Resetting Complications Windows 10

My Lenovo Flex 2-15D recently died. I ordered a new one from HP, but, because I chose to customize instead of buying one off the shelf, it will be almost four weeks before I get it. And because the Lenovo was my only computer, for personal use and for my business, I absolutely cannot go a month without a computer. So, I picked up a used HP Pavilion. It originally came with Windows 7 with an Intel Core i7 processor and Direct X11 Radeon graphics. At some point the previous owner upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. When I got it home I did a factory reset so that I could ensure there were none of the previous owners files and that there was nothing corrupt. The reset process took about 24 hours but everything seemed to be OK. It was late so I turned off the laptop and planned to install Office and personalize it with my settings and apps the next day. However, when I turned it on the next day, I got a pop-up that says, "Do you wish to allow User OOBE Create Elevated Object Server to make changes to this computer?" I've found that several people have encountered this but all the reports I found were dated more than a year ago, so I am wondering if there is a more current

solution. I am hesitant to run the media installation guide because a tech from Microsoft's Answer Desk tried this on another laptop of mine and it permanently crashed my computer.

In addition, when I completed the first reset I connected the laptop to my home wi-fi with no issue, but the next day after turning the laptop on I was no longer connected and cannot connect without a dialog box wanting me to give permission to "Networks" to make changes to the computer and I don't know if I should say yes or no.

And since I'm asking questions...why won't Windows let me go to or install Chrome? It keeps saying that the site is not secure and there is no option to go to the site anyway. What's up with that?

I do have the recovery/start-up disc I created when I first purchased my Lenovo, and I have a thumb drive with my file history saved on it, and so I am wondering if I can use either of these to get the used HP up and running? The Lenovo came with Windows 8.1 but I upgraded to 10 Home when Microsoft offered the free upgrades. And I don't know if it matters or not but it came with an Intel i7-4210U processor.

Do the laptops need to be made by the same brand to use the start-up/recovery disc?

I should also add that I tried to do perform the factory reset again and after a couple hours it says it could not complete the reset and now I see there are a couple Windows updates that have error messages saying there was a download error.

So...can anyone PLEASE help me get this HP up and running so I can get back to work? I would sooo much appreciate some guidance/education/direction...anything.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Windows 10 fails to update

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
