Windows 10: Resetting PIN doesnt work - not logged in

I have forgotten my pin for my desktop as I've not used it for 8 months. It has been in storage and I just set it back up. So I tried resetting my PIN while not being logged on. It does not work and keep saying "something went wrong, We weren't able to set up your PIN. You can try again, or skip this step and set up a PIN later". screenshot file size is too big, but this is all I see text-wise. This seems great because I still have 2 different buttons to press. However I can now press 'retry' or 'skip for now'. Retry doesn't do anything. It shows

I suggest you to try the steps provided below and check if it helps.

• Click on Sign-in options on the log on screen. Select Microsoft account.
• Try logging in using Microsoft account and password.
• Once you log into the system, try to change the PIN under accounts/sign-in page.
• Select the Start
  
  button, then select
  Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
• Try to reset the PIN.

Log-in Pin is incorrect after Anniversary update


I had the same issue after my update on Windows 10. I knew that my pin hadn't changed but it was saying it was incorrect. So I said that I forgot my pin and it started going through the steps to reset the pin entered my regular password and when the window popped up to set a new pin I said cancel and then I chose the option to set my pin later. I exited the screen, logged off logged back in, and set up a new pin which happened to be the same pin I had before and it worked. If this still doesn't work I can show step by step screen shots if you need. I have a surface 3 with Windows 10 fully updated 10.0.14393.0

 

Log in PIN Not Working after PC Repair

1. Use Microsoft Account Password: Try logging into your account using your Microsoft account password instead of the PIN. If you can log in, navigate to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Sign-in options". Here, you should be able to remove the old PIN and set up a new one.
   
2. Reset PIN in Safe Mode: Restart your PC and enter Safe Mode. Then, navigate to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Sign-in options". Try to reset your PIN here.
   
3. Delete NGC folder: If you're comfortable doing this, you could try deleting the contents of the NGC folder, which is where Windows stores PIN information. Here are the steps:
   
   • Log into your account using your Microsoft account password.
     
   • Navigate to C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft.
     
   • You should see a folder named "NGC". Right-click on it, select "Properties", uncheck "Read-only", and click "Apply".
     
   • Now, open the NGC folder, select all the contents inside, and delete them.
     
   • After this, restart your PC and try to set up a new PIN.
