Windows 10: Resetting PIN for Microsoft Account that is not the one I am currently logged into on Windows

I have a new Windows PC, and I created a new Microsoft account for this let's call this "NEW MS ACCT". I already had a Microsoft account, which I had created long ago to use on my Xbox console for gaming let's call this "OLD MS ACCT", but again, this is not the account that is being used on my new PC. I wanted a fresh account for my PC.


I installed the Xbox app on my PC because I want to play Minecraft, which I already own under OLD MS ACCT. I do not want to pay for the game again with NEW MS ACCT, I simply want to switch accounts in the Xbox App. When I launch the Xbox app, I am automatically signed into NEW MS ACCT. This makes sense, no problem, I just want to switch accounts.


So in the Xbox app, I go to Profile & Settings > Settings > Sign in > Switch Account and click on the OLD MS ACCT profile. I enter my password, and am then presented with this page: https://i.imgur.com/87C8SaL.png. I didn't think I had a PIN for this account, OLD MS ACCT, but apparently I do because when I guess a PIN it says that it is incorrect. When I click I forgot my PIN, it gives me instructions for how to reset my PIN through Windows. However, I am not logged into this account on Windows, so this solution does not work for me. I also cannot figure out how to change my signed-in account on Windows from NEW MS ACCT to OLD MS ACCT to reset the PIN. I think that would work as well. I can log into OLD MS ACCT on Microsoft.com, but I see no way to reset my PIN.


In short summary, I want to reset a PIN for an account that is not currently logged into Windows. How do I do that?

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to try the steps provided below and check if it helps.

• Click on Sign-in options on the log on screen. Select Microsoft account.
• Try logging in using Microsoft account and password.
• Once you log into the system, try to change the PIN under accounts/sign-in page.
• Select the Start
  
  button, then select
  Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
• Try to reset the PIN.

Can't reset my PIN

1. Were there any changes made to the operating system recently?
   
2. Is the system connected with Wired or wireless connection?
   

If you are using wireless connection, I suggest you to plug in to the Ethernet cable and try entering the password. I also suggest you to change the Microsoft password by login to
login.live.com from other device. Try entering the password through
on-screen keyboard.

I also suggest you to enable build-in admin account using command prompt from WinRE, follow the below steps, and check if that helps.

Step: Enable built-in admin from WinRE.

1. On the login screen click on the power button at the bottom right corner of the screen.
2. Hold Shift key and click on restart.
3. Click on Troubleshoot.
4. Click on Advanced options.
5. Click on Command Prompt.
6. Type the command net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter key.
7. Once logged in to the built in admin account, try changing the current user account password.

If you are unable to change the password for the account, I suggest you to create a new user account. Follow the steps from the article to create a new user account

Help logging in with incorrect microsoft account

Yesterday I did exactly as recommended in the link,

• Option Three: To Reset Password of your Microsoft Account Online at Microsoft

This gave me access to the Microsoft account currently displaying on the windows 10 login screen (as tested by logging into outlook in a web browser). The problem is that it doesn't seem to be syncing to the computer in question as I have tried the newly reset password several times over the last 24 h with no luck. I am confident the computer is connected to a working internet connection.

Anything else I can try?
