Hey folks, I have a surface 2 laying around from my previois employer. I was told I don't need to return it, but I also can't use it because I'm not a part of the org and was signed out. Trying to format it and have it for personal use.

Hitting the wall with a recovery key - I don't have it. Tried with an external USB, and after the whole thing finishes, it still asks to login with an address from the previous org. Do I have any other ways to make the surface useable again?

  2. Problem updating Windows Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10 feature updates

    Hi,

I have manage to install image for Microsoft Surface Pro 4 by going to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...erecoveryimage and download a recovery image for Microsoft Surface Pro 4.

What I did to reset your Surface from a USB recovery drive was:
Step 1: Make sure your Surface is turned off and plugged in (hold down the power
    button for 30 seconds).
Step 2: Insert the USB recovery drive into the USB port on your Surface.
Step 3: Press and hold the volume-down button while you press and release the
    power button on your Surface.
Step 4: When the Surface logo appears, release the volume button.
Step 5: When prompted, select the language and keyboard layout you want.
Step 6: Select Troubleshoot > Reset your PC.
If prompted for a recovery key, select Skip this drive at the bottom of the
    screen.
Step 7: Select the target operating system you wish to reset. This
refers to the current operating system installed on your Surface.
Step 8: Select Yes, repartition the drives, and on the next page, select Next.
Step 9: Choose Just remove my files.
    Step 10: Select Reset.
Surface restarts and the Surface logo displays while the reset process continues
    (this can take a while).

This always fails and I have to do the below which continues installation.
    Windows 10 Installation Media:

    1. Insert the Media (DVD/USB) in your PC and restart.
    2. Boot from the media.
    3. Select Repair Your Computer.
    Select Troubleshoot.

    1. Choose Command Prompt from the menu:
    Type in the command:
    Diskpart
    Type in the command:
List disk (Note which disk is your Boot drive number mine is 0)
    Type in the command:
    Sel disk 0
    Type in the command:
List vol (Note which volume is the EFI partition mine is 4)
    Type in the command:
    Sel vol 4
    Type in the command:
    assign letter=V:
    Type in the command:
    Exit
    Type in the command:
    V:
After you have assigned a drive letter Using Diskpart You can format the EFI partition:
Example: if you assigned a letter V to the partition the command would be:
    format V: /FS:FAT32
    Type in the command:
    bcdboot C:\windows /s V: /f UEFI

Now I have an issue that I cannot install Feature Updates. They keep failing to install.
Any ideas how to resolve issue?

Reset Surface Pro 4 Software / now have errors

Thanks. I have already started a second effort to reset the Surface and not preserve any personal files. (Personal files are all stored elsewhere anyway) I suspect the same thing will happen. When it does, I will give your suggestions a try. By the way, after a reset, is there any way for me to keep my original PC name. My MS Office listed the original pc name as one of the 5 installs on my license. I didn't want to use up 2 licences on one PC.

    surface 2 laptop issues

    Hi nirvi,

There are some possibilities on what might cause the issue such as 3rd party programs, programs running on the background or at most cases, outdated programs or Windows. Let's isolate your concern. For me to have a better understanding about your concern,
I would like to know the following:

    • Just to clarify, are both Surface books connected and managed by your company's domain?
    • If not, is the issue happening on other user profiles?
    • What is the version and build of your Windows 10?
      • You'd be able to have this checked by press the Windows button + R to open the Run box, then type winver and press Enter.

In the meantime, if your computers are being managed by your company, I would suggest to have this be checked by your company administrator. This is so they would be able to either provide you full access or to ensure that they would be able to have your
    computer checked.

If these computers are not company issued or managed by your company, then I suggest that you perfrom a
clean boot. This is to ensure that there are no background programs that might cause the issue. If you've
already peformed this step, then it would be best to do a reset on your hibernation profile. You can perform this by doing these steps:

    1. On Cortana, key in CMD.
    2. Once Command Prompt shows on the list, right click on it and choose
      Run as administrator.
    3. On the Command Prompt, key in powercfg -h offand press
      Enter.
    4. Check the if file named hiberfil.sys is still present on this folder path:
      C:\Windows\Boot\PCAT or C:\Windows\Boot\.
    5. If not, back on the elevated command prompt, type powercfg -h on and press
      Enter.
    6. Check the if file named hiberfil.sys is still present on this folder path: C:\Windows\Boot\PCAT or C:\Windows\Boot\.
    7. Test if the issue still occurs after coming from hibernation.

I'll be waiting for your response, for me to assist you further.
