The only way to remove Windows.old is using Disk Cleanup: Delete or remove Windows.old folder after Windows Upgrade

 

Unless there is file system corruption. Hence my recommendation to use chkdsk.

 

Safest and best maybe but only way it's not. I don't know why was windows holding those leftovers for ransom but after deleting them by brute force, there's no negative backlash to those missing files.
Now just to find out what is $SysReset folder for. There's only 202KB in log files in one of 5 folders. It has no mention in disk cleanup.

 

How do you delete files by "brute force"? Star Wars power or something else? *Smile

I have 4kB file, which can not be removed, it is not really an issue, just annoying like hell, that I can not get rid of it.

I can not use linux, I can use only Windows, I took ownership of it, it can not be removed using File Assassin or Wise Deleter, because I can not select the file, it apparently does not exist, it shows 0 size and it has no Security tab.

 

Took ownership, clicked delete and it was gone.

 

Sadly, that does not work for me. *Sad I feel like a complete beginner, unable to delete a simple file in Windows. *Shock

 

Did you try in safe mode ?

 

I am afraid to use that one. The thing is, that laptop's keyboard is damaged. When enabled, it keeps pressing one key, which makes doing anything outside Windows impossible. Not sure, how safe mode would react and if I would be able to boot normally afterwards. I do not want to make the laptop inoperable just because of a silly 4 kB file.

 

Well, if it's not in the way, let it live, might disappear next time.

 

@TairikuOkami, I can't read the language in your screenshots, but Yandex is a Browser toolbar/Hijacker which may explain why you are having trouble removing it, or you are using the Yandex Browser which is why it can't be removed.

 

That is a leftover of a task for updating the browser. I have the current one disabled, on that computer as well.
