Windows 10: Resolving Remote Desktop display distortion

I am using RD Version 10.4.0 1811 to remote into a PC. I connect to multiple PCs via RD but in this one instance the display is completely distorted, with portions of the screen cutting out, some windows duplicating and overlapping, and button functionality being relocated to elsewhere in the screen.

I have followed articles advising display adjustments, which have been made to no affect. Rebooting the client has not resolved it.

Ideas on other steps I can try?

Remote desktop Windows 10 - Display issues

I recently upgraded my Home office PC to win10. Remote desktop to my Work office PC is now unusable.

The system connects and I can log in but the display is highly distorted. I've tried several different combinations of resolution on both systems (remote and terminal) and all have the same distortion.

Has anyone else had this issue? Are there any suggestions for resolution?

 

Display issues when using remote desktop on Windows 10

I understand you are having trouble with the remote desktop in which the display is distorted. Let's work on that.

Since you already tried to disconnect and restart the RDP or remote desktop display.

So next steps will be removing the cache files out of this folder on your local machine (NOT the remote server).

To do this, press Windows key + R, then type:

C:Users%UserName%AppDataLocalMicrosoftTerminal Server ClientCache

Once done, open the Remote desktop Connection.

When you open Remote Desktop Connection, on the pop-up, select Experience Tab, put a checkmark on the "Persistent Bitmap Caching".

Windows 10 - Remote Desktop Connection

I will certainly help you with the issue you are experiencing in adjusting the resolution on the remote desktop.

This issue might occur due to, when you first connect, Remote Desktop attempts to size the screen according to its default setting. You can adjust this setting within the Remote Desktop client. Adjusting the screen size allows
you to sculpt the desktop display size to better fit your computer's viewing area.

Please follow below mentioned steps to fix the issue:

Step 1: To change the size of the Remote Desktop window:

  Open Remote Desktop Connection (RDC).
  
• 
  Click on the Options button located in the lower left-hand corner of the RDC window.
  
• 
  This will expand the RDC window to display 7 different option tabs.
  
• 
  Click on the Display tab.
  
• 
  In the display configuration section, slide the bar to the left or right to decrease or increase the size of the remote desktop session window.
  
• 
  Click the Connect button.

  Open the "Start" menu and type
  "mstsc" (in the search bar) and then press “Enter."

  Click "Options”.
  
• 
  Click the "Display" tab.

  Drag the slider bar left or right to
  reduce or enlarge the display resolution. The
  left-most position is the minimum resolution, while the right-most is a full-screen resolution.
