Restart computer after download and install of windows 10 1709 update

I have a Acer Aspire M3450-UR30P and I am running Windows 10 1703 with every cumulative update and every other update applied. My system runs great with one exception. I can restart from windows and it has no problems restarting and booting up to my windows. I can shut down and turn my computer back on and it boots up to windows without any problem. It offers me Windows 10 1709 all the time unless I block it and it updates everything great and reboots from windows update just fine and applies all updates (except 1709 which I have blocked for the 14 time) and boots up to my normal windows 1703. When I unblock 1709 and let it download and install and the computer boots up only 1 time fine then the next time it tries to boot up my HD goes to sleep but everything is running. I was told that my power supply was bad so I put in a new and larger power supply and the computer acts exactly the same way. I was told that it was my HD so I changed that also and it acts exactly the same way. I have checked my ram (12GB) and I only have 90GB used out of a 500GB HD so I have plenty of space open. I have Malwarebytes Pro and Driver Support installed and everything else is Microsoft. My Acer Aspire E1-571-6680 notebook has exactly the same thing installed and I have 1709 blocked on it as well because 1709 downloads and installs and goes through the install process just fine but freezes my computer up after I click on one item and then just stops responding and I have to do a hard shut down and start up and it continues doing the same thing so I have to reinstall Windows from a backup to 1703. Both computers have and are set up with UEFI. Why does my desktop put my HD to sleep and my notebook stop responding after this crazy 1709 update. I have too many apps to do another install from scratch and install them and register them. What is wrong? I am 75 years old and on social security and don't have the extra money to buy two new computers. Thanks for all that can help.

    :)

  2. Feature Update to WIndows 10 Version 1709 does not install

I got a popup message that Feature Update to WIndows 10 Version 1709 was downloaded and I needed to restart to install it. I restarted. It did not install. When I search for updates it finds and downloads Feature Update to WIndows 10 Version 1709. I restart
but no install. I now have three little messages under updates in settings saying "Feature Update to WIndows 10 Version 1709 requires a restart to finish installing. What will it take to actually install this thing?

  3. Windows 10 1709 (Fall Creators Update) failed update after restart or shut down

I checked for updates on my ASUS A555J laptop and it started downloading the Fall Creators Update - Windows 10 1709 2days ago.

It got through the download and finished the install and prompted me to reboot the computer.

The computer restart (normal windows restart) without showing update percentage (usually appear when update). After reboot process done, it still not updating the windows 10 to 1709 version.

On the power menu it keep showing update and restart & update and shut down button. At the setting > update & security, also show the same, restart to apply the update. but when restart or shut down. it still not updating.

Hope this problem will solve. Thanks you very much.

Restart computer after download and install of windows 10 1709 update

Try backing up your system (use Macrium Reflect Free, if you don't already do so), then uninstall MalwareBytes and Driver Support. It may be the antivirus that's interfering with the update. If that doesn't work, you can simply restore the backup (be sure to build a Rescue Media disk before you retry the 1709 install, because you can then boot from that and quickly restore your old backup if the install doesn't work).
    HTH, and good luck,

Your problem may be related to the ATI video drivers. If you have the Windows installation Media, boot up into safe mode, open device manager and try to roll back the ATI driver to earlier version.

If you are currently running 1703. click on start and type control, control panel will hilite, press enter to run it. Click on:
System->Advanced System Settings->Hardware->Device Installation Settings and tick on "No", save changes
This will prevent Windows to install any driver that might cause the problem.
Of course you will need to update the driver manually if there's any update driver that works with your PC in the future.

Again, I assume you've already have backup image of your PC.

I make a disk and partition backup every day at midnight with EaseUs backup because it works better than all the rest that I have tried . I have uninstalled Malwarebytes Pro and Driver Support with Revo Uninstaller Pro and then tried the update again and the exact same thing happens. My desktop computer doesn't have secure boot but my laptop does. I don't have to disable anything on my laptop for it to install 1709 but I have tried both ways on both of the computers and there is no change in the way things work on both computers. I have also installed my AMD video driver from my original set of drivers and that has no effect on my desktop and my laptop has Intel 4000 video drivers on the CPU chip. I can install windows 10 1709 to a new disk with a clean install with all my drivers intact with no problem so my drivers are not the problem with either my desktop or laptop. The problem I have is that I've done this before on both my desktop and laptop with the 1703 upgrade and it takes a minimum of two weeks to restore all of my programs and then fight with all the programs that require a registration even for lifetime upgrades because they don't want to register until I email all of them and try to explain that some or all of their programs are stopping me from updating my computers to the new Microsoft upgrade. If I am offered the upgrade through windows update and Microsoft has supposedly check everything out why won't they install? I have even contacted Microsoft and ask if I would have any Problems and they said not if it was offered through windows update.
