Windows 10: Restart USB interfaces without rebooting computer

Hi,I have a quite-common problem that happens a lot on my Dell Laptop with Win 10. Very often when I connect or disconnect to my docking station USB-C - the USB port on the laptop just stops working. So far the only solution I've found is to restart the laptop. However very often I have a lot of apps open, with work in progress, and it's a royal pain to have to go through a restart. Does anyone know of a way to restart the USB ports without restarting Windows?Everything I see about resetting USB ports just say "uninstall driver and restart PC". It seems like there would be a sim

Thank you john for all of your help i decided to get the usb my computer came with and factory reset it i didnt have anything that personal or valueable so its ok thanks for the help though i appreciate it

 

USB Devices Don't Work Properly After Restart

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Hardware and Devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue
is with your Devices.

Refer these steps:

  Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.

  Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
  
• 
  Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.
  
• 
  Run the Hardware and Devices.
  

If the issue persist I suggest you to follow method 2.

Method 2: I suggest you to updating the latest USB devices from the manufacturer's website and check if the issue persists.

Follow the steps to update the USB drivers:

a. Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

b. Expand the USB driver.

c. Right-click on the USB and click on Update driver software.

d. Restart the computer and check.

Ok, let's see it with pictures step-by-step. First right-click on the USB device and select Update driver software:





Then select Browse my computer for driver software (LAST option) :





The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :





Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:





Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.
