Windows 10: Restore files are being deleted, not by me. Occasional VSS error 13.

This has happened on several occasions lately. VSS error 13 - associated COM server cannot be started. A system shutdown is in progress. This was at start up and service VSS was not running. Crypto was running. Ran SFC and DISM cmds in order on several occasions. Some needed correction and some not. Would Automatic delayed start help? Thanks. VSS Error 13 & 8139

Backup and Restore (Windows 7), File History, and some others, sorry, I did not see the full list. Third-party backup and disk management tools may use VSS too.

 

VSS Errors 8193 and 13

I think you're talking about system protection. Mine is set to "On" for my main drive.

How are you disabling it - hopefully not in Services. You should't be messing around in there anymore than what I suggested as the fix.

It's interesting that you are trying to find ways to provoke the error - that helps us figure it out for good!

I did not fix the vss 8193 and 13 error but I only get it occasionally. I used both of the fixes mentioned at the time of getting those errors. I do not have the 1534 errors anymore ( I did the fix). What I am trying to get at here is on upgrading to 1903 I think the database is still looking for the TDL registry key that was removed when the errors 1534 appeared. I also had deleted the clsid associated with the error. I rebuilt the search database in windows and have not seen the 1893 and 13 errors since but that does not mean I won't. I have not changed any settings that were recommended in these posts (earlier on) because mine(services) were already set that way.
