Restore Image to HDD using a second computer

My desktop computer failed to boot. Windows was an SSD drive.

I have a System Image on an external HDD, in a subfolder.

Can I use a second windows computer to restore the the image from the external HDD to the SSD drive I can connect the SDD to this PC also as an external HDD via USB?

I ask this because I tried repairing using an USB bootable flash drive and the external HDD and at some point I got an error, saying that it couldn't read either from the source or the destination drive.

When I tried again, I started receiving the error:

windows cannot restore a system image to a computer that has different firmware the system image was created on a computer using bios and this computer is using efi

Although it worked once until it failed and the image was created using the very same computer!

    :)

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect

In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
    1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
    2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
    3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination

    4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
    5. Boot up with your new HD.

    Hi Johan,

    It is possible that your
    HDD was unreadable
causing the error message to appear. We recommend that you perform these troubleshooting steps and check if there are any changes:

    • Shutdown
      your
      PC.

    • Unhooked
      the
      HDD
      and
      turn on
      your
      PC.

    • Reconnect
      your
      HDD
      and
      restart
      your
      PC.

If the issue persists, we suggest that you contact your
    laptop/computer's manufacturer
    for further assistance.

Update us on how it goes.

    Regards.

Unallocated space hinder system image backup

For hardware concerns, we suggest that you reach out to your OEM for additional troubleshooting steps. You may try these steps though for basic troubleshooting:

    • Disconnect power cable from your computer.
    • Perform power drain by pressing and holding the power button for 15 seconds to remove the residual power.
    • If your are qualified, open computer cover.
    • Check cables for damages, reseat the HDD and reboot the computer.
    • If it still the same, try a different SATA cable and check if the HDD is being detected.
    • If possible, check the HDD by connecting it to another computer. It is possible that there is an issue with the motherboard or the BIOS needs to be updated.

You can follow these steps or you can contact your OEM who specializes in troubleshooting hardware.

For further queries, feel free to post back.
