Windows 10: Restore last folders at logon not working on Windows 11

Hi all,I have this issue beginning with I do not remember which Windows update. It used to work very nice at the beginning of using Windows 11, however right now I applied everything I saw related to this issue on Microsoft forums and did not work. My folders that I left open when I shut down Windows will not open anymore when I start Windows, and this is happening right now with consistency.I tried DISM & sfc, and after I rebooted the computer the folders remained closed. I checked my registry and everything is in best order.I used to have a factory installed Windows 10 on this PC, and I

Previous File Explorer windows are not restored even after turning on the "Restore previous folder windows at logon" feature on a Windows 10 computer

This happens every time you reboot a Windows 10 computer, both Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise.

Please try it yourself.

• Open Folder Options and select the View tab.
• De-Select/Un-Check "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
• Select/Check "Restore previous folder windows at logon"
• Leave the File Explorer window open and reboot the computer
• The previous open folder window will not be restored after logon
• Open a File Explore window and open the C:\ root folder or the C:\Windows folder
• The protected operating system files will once again be hidden
• Open Folder Options and select the View tab
• Locate the same values changed previously and look at their current setting.
• They will have returned back to their default values
  • "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" will be Selected/Checked
  • "Restore previous folder windows at logon" will be De-selected/Un-Checked

It seems to be a bug in Windows 10 that I would like to report.

Is Windows going to sleep or hibernate when you Log Off? If so then it is a sleep or hibernate issue.

Even though you tried modifying registry keys, may I ask if you've changed this one below?

Step 1: Open registry editor, and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell

Step 2: Delete all the entries that starts with "WinPos" and "MaxPos"

Important: This task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

May I ask if you mean every time a new File Explorer window will pop up? If so, this is all the same on devices with Windows 11, and unfortunately there is no option which can change this. If you have a better idea, you can make an upvote for this suggestion: When opening a folder by choosing "Show location" in browser download panel or similar options in other programs, allow the folder to be opened in the same window instead a new one · Community (microsoft.com) All users can see the initiative and decide if they want to make an upvote. The more users who make an upvote, the more likely it is that improvements will be made in subsequent versions.
