Windows 10: restore point created successfully after last failed update but not found (again!)

About a year ago I had this same problem with windows 10 home on my elderly relative's machine. The machine failed to update properly and required that I use the Media Creation Tool. This process took over 3 hours to get the machine up and running as before. I then was *sure* to create a system restore point. The failure happened again after just less than a year later and it was unable to find ANY restore points! AGAIN I had to use the Media Creation Tool and AGAIN (this time I was so mad that I watched the process carefully until it declared that a restore point was successful).

Sure enough less than 2 months later I find myself in the exact same situation and windows doesn't find any restore point. What's going on and is there any way to avoid having to Media Creation Tool...again?

BTW, their friends are telling them to get a MAC (heaven forbid!) but they know that I won't be their on-call service tech in that case ;-)>

Update: Event Viewer seems to suggest >

Successfully created restore point (Process = C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe; Description = O&O ShutUp10).
Successfully created restore point (Process = C:\Program Files\HitmanPro\HitmanPro.exe Files\HitmanPro\HitmanPro.exe" ; Description = Checkpoint by HitmanPro).

Successfully created (if true) is not populating to Restore your computer to the state... list.

I'm also seeing Error VSS & Error CAP12

Most of Event Viewer is over-my-pay-grade.

Restore Points Failing to be Created


Hello All, Brink -
I've been using Brink's System Restore Point shortcut since Windows 7. It's very convenient.
I have found in Windows 10 it occasionally doesn't actually create one even though I receive the success message. I've been double checking (defeats convenience of a shortcut) via the system protection link. If a new restore point hasn't been created I create one there ... sometimes that doesn't work.

Further investigation hasn't shown anything wrong (attached), yet I sometimes have to manually create the new restore point more than once to have it show up in the 'available restore points' list. It thus appears the shortcut method is not the problem, but ... (?)
