    Restore WordPad Paint Registry Entries


    After uninstalling Microsoft Paint in Windows 10, and reinstalling it from the Microsoft Store, the Paint button doesn't work in WordPad where it reports this error:Failed to create object. Make sure the application is registered in the system registry.What do I need to do to fix Paint opening up in WordPad please?

    How to clear Recent Docs list in Wordpad?

    Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.



    To clear the Recent Docs list in Wordpad, please refer the steps mentioned below:



    Note: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow
    these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.




    Follow the steps to take backup of registry.




    1. Close Wordpad.
    2. Type Command Prompt in the search bar on the
      Taskbar.
    3. Right click on the Command Prompt icon and select
      Run as administrator.
    4. Now, copy the following command and paste in Command Prompt window:
      cmd /k reg delete "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Wordpad\Recent File List" /f
      and hit Enter.
    5. After executing the command, restart the computer, open
      Wordpad and check Recent Docs list.

    Wordpad, paint, notepad not working

    Hello vijaydesai741,

    I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. I understand you have a problem with notepad, wordpad and paint not working. What is your current Windows edition and version? Press Start then search Settings,
    select System then About.

    Please try to reinstall Paint, Wordpad and Notepad if it helps.

    Press Start then search Manage optional features

    Find Notepad on the list then click Uninstall

    Restart your PC

    After that, Press Start then search then search Manage optional features

    Click Add a feature

    Select Notepad then Install

    Please try to open Notepad

    Do the same for Microsoft Paint and Wordpad

    Please try to check Wordpad on this location

    C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories

    Reset Wordpad settings to its default, close Wordpad, and Run regedit to open the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Wordpad

    In the left pane, you will see Options. Delete this Options key.

    Now when you open Wordpad, you will see it with its default settings
