Windows 10: Restore zip functionality to File Explorer

A while back I installed a 3rd party zip application to open a compressed folder I've never heard of before. After doing that, my File Explorer lost its ability to open .ZIP files. So I uninstalled the 3rd party application but it did not fix my ZIP function. I have been using some other 3rd party apps for the past few months Bree, 9zip, etc. but I really need the right click "extract all" functionality that was built in to Win10.


Here's what I've already tried:

SFC repair and DISM repair

Changing .ZIP association

uninstalling all 3rd party zip programs


And none of these have worked. When I set my default program to "File Explorer" it just pops up the same screen asking which program to associate. So I'm thinking it's actually broken. Is there another way to reinstall this function without losing anything on my computer? If not, what would be the least disruptive method of resetting my PC?

Windows 10 Zip functions

I am using Windows 10 and trying to create a zip file. I followed the usual steps of selecting a file, right-click, hover on Send To, and then select the Zip option to compress the file. However, there isn't an option for using the Zip function. It is missing.
I then used File Explorer and found the Zip function on the ribbon, but the function doesn't work. I select the file and click on the Zip icon. Nothing happens, no error message, no file creation, nada.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this problem would be appreciated...greatly!

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

• 
  Type Default programs
  in the search bar and press enter
  
• 
  Click on choose default programs by file type
  
• 
  Select .zip
  and select File Explorer
