  1. Restricting user access to a drive on my PC

I have multiple users that log in to a single Win 10 PC and on that PC there is a drive E: that I'd like to give access to some users Jim and Joe and restrict access to others Mike and Mary. All users log in using their Microsoft accounts for authentication e.g. no guest accounts. My question relates to how to set up permissions for this. Here is what I'm thinking about doing that I'd like to run by some of the experts out there for feedback:

    1. Right-click on the E drive under This PC and go to properties.
    2. Under the Security tab,
      1. remove the following groups: "authenticated users" and "user"
      2. leave the following groups: "Administrators" and "System"
      3. Add the user names of the people I want to give access to this drive Myself, Jim and Joe.

If I'd like to share this E drive across the network so that Jim, Joe, and myself can access it from other PC's, I'm assuming I'd go to the Sharing Tab and remove all users and groups and just add Me, Jim, and Joe.

    Does that sound about right?

    Thanks,

    Mark

  2. Need some restriction of my standard user in my PC

The easiest way to restrict a standard user from accessing the files of another user account is by ensuring that the files are saved to the
C:\Users\<AdministratorUsername> folder or the %userprofiles% folder. If a standard user attempts to access the files from the said folder, by default, it would instantly prompt for the administrator's credentials in order
    to access it.

If you wish to put restrictions on a specific file, you may follow the steps below:

    • Right-click on the specific file and choose Properties.
    • Choose Security tab.
    • Click Edit.
    • Choose Add.
    • Type the username, click Check Name and then, hit
      OK.
    • You can now manage the restrictions for the user profile, under Permissions for <username>.
If you wanted to set a restriction on the Local Drive, follow these steps:

    • Double-click This PC.
    • Right-click on Local Disk (CRestricting user access to a drive on my PC :).
    • Choose Properties.
    • Select Security tab.
    • Click Edit.
    • Choose Add.
    • Type the username, click Check Name and then, hit OK.
    • Set the level of restriction for the said drive.
