Windows 10: Retail copy of Windows 11 is tie to Motherboard?

I recently acquired a computer without a pre-installed operating system. I subsequently purchased a legal retail copy of Windows 11, complete with a valid serial number.Due to a technical issue, I entrusted the computer to a computer repair service for diagnosis and remediation.Following their intervention, the technicians reinstalled Windows 11, unfortunately neglecting to utilize my legitimate license. They claim that Windows 11 automatically associates with the motherboard during installation, rendering the serial number ineffective on a different hardware configuration.I am seeking clarifi

Switched motherboards, Windows activation error

Yet, you purchased a digital license which would tie into the motherboard.

Did you purchase the license from Windows Store or did you purchase a Retail copy of Windows 10 and install it on the system.

An OEM version is tied to the Original Motherboard.

A Retail Copy can be transferred to another PC which is what you have now after switching the motherboard.

 

Motherboard change with retail version of windows

Hi all,

I am looking at upgrading my pc with a new motherboard,cpu,graphics card,ect. What I need to know is do I need to purchase a new copy of windows 10.

I originally purchased a copy of windows 8.1 and then received the free digital upgrade to 10 but I cannot find the original disc,box or product key to find out if it was oem or retail version,so I searched in my command box and was told it was "retail channel".So
does this mean that i can reativate it on my new pc.

Remove Key License from old Motherboard

• If your copy of Windows 10 is OEM( came preinstalled on the computer it can not be transferred. The License died with the old motherboard. If it is retail (bought from Microsoft store or another Retailer ) it can be transferred. If you still have issues
  I would contact Microsoft support and they will help activate.
