Windows 10: Return Windows 7 "Favourites" or File Explorer Alternative?

I've always hated the removal of Favourites from the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and its poor man's replacement with "Quick Access".

The glaring and most frustrating issue is that Quick Access links are direct references to the folders, not indirect references like they were as Favourites. This means that the name of the link is the name of the folder you're adding. Any changes to the reference directly change the folder itself, such as renaming it.

It means that, if you want links to folders of the same name within different structures, all you see is the same name multiple times with no way to know what destination each leads to. With Favourites, I would rename these links as they were just shortcuts.

I want to know how I can either restore this functionality to make quick access actually useful, or know of another 3rd party tool that I can use to replace it. I would want to be able to use it in other applications though as well when I save or open files. It should replace the Windows default file explorer.

Some files listed in Windows Explorer are blue font

I seem to have run out of room on a Windows XP Pro system. I tried to defrag but don't have but 7% room available. I looked in Windows Explorer to try to find some huge files that might be corrupt and I see a few that are listed in blue. What does that mean? I have not compressed anything on purpose. Thanks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows 10 My Favourites list is gone!

I have loaded up Windows 10 and my favourites list is gone. This is pretty frustrating as I had a big list of favourites built up over a couple of years for work and my own personal browsing. I tried the adive offered by Krishna to Maggie in the forum which
was:

"I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps to restore the favourites.

• Click This PC
• Type %userprofile% into the Address bar
• Press Enter on your keyboard
• Right click the Favorites folder
• Click Properties
• Click Previous Versions
• Wait for the list of previous versions to load
• Select a version that was before you lost the files/folders
• Click Restore."

When I got to step 6 my previous versions list showed only today. Surely the loading of Windows 10 has not wiped out my Favourites? What can I do from here?
