  1. Revert to old intel driver (without the UWP app)

I recently made a fresh install of my laptop and was surprised to see a new intell UWP app instead of the old normal app. Unfortunaly it cause BSOD when I connect my laptop to an extarnal monitor and launch some fullscreen game since the driver change. So how could I revert to the old way: I don't even have in my program list the "driver for intel graphic v 24.20.1006344" ?

  2. Windows 10, Intel drivers, Atom tablet, Store/UWP apps - incompatible?

First, let me say that Windows 10 works pretty well in most of my computers. Desktop (old Core2, nVidia GPU) and laptop (old i5, Intel HD graphics) work fine. Neither of them, of course, came with Windows 10; both are upgrades from earlier versions and use
    64-bit versions.

However, a tablet (Atom, Intel HD graphics, 32-bit because 2G RAM limit) that actually came with Windows 10 has an annoying problem: when using a UWP app (like Windows 10's built-in Mail app), it just about always has several graphics driver fails. Within
a few minutes of stating the app, the entire display freezes, the Mail window may go grey or blank, then the entire screen goes black. After a few moments, it comes back, but the Mail app window itself stays blank for another minute or more. Often but not
every time, another full-screen crash will then occur. Usually, after 2-3 of these crashes, things work normally. Similar things happen, but not *every* time (Mail crashes nearly every time I use it) with other UWP apps like Calendar and News. It also happens
with Edge, though rarely (and I normally use Firefox so Edge isn't really an issue). It does NOT happen with Win32 apps like Firefox and Libreoffice, unless I open Mail while those are open.

I have done all the normal stuff to troubleshoot. It's clearly a graphics driver crash even though - yes I have checked - no Event is logged.

Intel, btw, no longer updates Atom HD graphics drivers in 32-bit Windows 10. The one I have is labeled for Win10, but is actually a Win8.1 driver.

Tablet recently got the 1703 Creators Update.

    Things I have done:

Graphics driver: have tried a couple of Intel driver versions. Same crash issue, and doesn't rotate automatically when plugging in the keyboard. The Intel driver is better with power management - actually shuts the screen backlight off when put to sleep.
And the Intel driver works better with games. Have also tried the Microsoft generic display driver. It doesn't work well with games, and doesn't shut off the backlight when sleeping (so it kills the battery life), but rotates properly and does not crash with
UWP apps. Given the use the tablet usually gets, I prefer the MS generic driver, but it does take at least an hour off the battery life - and the 1703 installation restored the Intel driver.

Other updates: Laptop is fully updated otherwise. Current firmware (checked and updated in Device Manager) and drivers (obtained from RCA). Interestingly, the official driver package for this tablet SKU (varies depending on manufacture date) does not include
the Intel graphics driver, while the package for later ones does. Took a while, but Windows 10 1703 finally arrived in 1708; required minor setup tweaking but seems settled and working OK otherwise.

So: what's the deal here? Is it clearly an Intel driver issue as it seems to be (which will never be fixed by Intel), or is something going on inside Win10 that messed things up? BTW, this problem first appeared in 1607; Intel driver worked fine in both
RTM (which the tablet came with) and 1511 (which it immediately updated to when I started it the first time). And it's clearly a UWP app-related issue; Win32 apps don't do this. What else can be done (other than throwing out the tablet and giving up on Windows
for anything smaller than a laptop)? Or maybe giving up on Mail/Calendar and switching to Thunderbird (probably more feasible budget-wise). ????

  3. Startup error on discontinued Intel driver

    Hi David,

Windows 10 update remove the Intel WiDi driver due to compatibility issue. We suggest uninstalling the Intel WiDi driver from Control Panel to avoid it from showing up every time you start your computer. To do this, kindly follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + X on your keyboard.
    • Select Control Panel.
    • Click Programs.
    • Choose Programs and Features.
    • Click Intel (R) WiDi Driver and hit Uninstall.
    • Restart your computer.

    Let us know goes.
