Windows 10: Reverting to IE8

I understand the admonitions, but I have a special need to revert the IE11 that comes with Windows10 back to IE8. We used to be able to do this fairly easily up through Windows 7 using a process of opening Windows Update, listing all updates, and removing those updates that involved IE. I don't see this process available in Windows 10.

Is anyone aware of a process I can use to revert IE11 to IE8? Or, will I have to go back to Windows 7 to get this done?

I'm surprised that the IE8 User Agent was the one required. You cannot set this User Agent to be always used on this site and only on this site. You can set Emulation to be IE8 on all sites, but this will cause problems on nearly all other sites. Look for
the Persist Emulation Settings icon in the upper left of Developer Tool.

I would suggest that you simply open Developer Tool and use Emulation every time you access this site.

Ok, I went into the F12 and emulation, and set the User Agent to IE10 and then to IE 9, finally to IE8 and the website opened. When I close out of the F12 site it reverts back to IE 11 and the website reverts back to the original issue. How do I save the
IE 8 setting?

 

In previous versions of Windows one could remove an IE update and they would revert to the original version. On my Win10 there is no update for IE11, it's listed in Control Panel, Programs and Features, Turn Windows features on or off. Removing the checkmark will turn it off but there's no other version of IE for it to revert back to. I'd have my doubts IE8 would even install on Win10, it was the last version available for WinXP and maybe WinVista. And Win7 may get the update to IE11 unless you refuse it, I have it without problems but mostly use Firefox and SeaMonkey unless some sites such as Microsoft won't work with anything other than IE.

What issue do you have that requires an older IE?

 

In any version of Windows you can only revert IE back to the version the OS originally came with. Windows 7 came with IE8 so reverting back to it is possible.Since Windows 10 comes with IE11 there is no version to go back to. At the present time Windows 10 is compatible only with IE11. If there is someday an IE12 and Windows 10 was upgraded to it then reversion to IE11 would be possible, but no further.

Running IE8 on Windows 10 is not going to happen. That would require major changes to the OS, changes that only Microsoft could make.

You need to find some other solution to your problem.
