Windows 10: RIGHT BUTTON Drag Drop has become almost impossible to use

Discus and support RIGHT BUTTON Drag Drop has become almost impossible to use in Windows 10 Network and Sharing to solve the problem; I am referring drag dropping a file or folder with the RIGHT BUTTON held down Whenever i try to use this feature the context menu takes precedence....     RIGHT BUTTON Drag Drop has become almost impossible to use


    I am referring drag dropping a file or folder with the RIGHT BUTTON held down


    Whenever i try to use this feature the context menu takes precedence. This has only happened recently (maybe since I installed 1809 in late Feb). If I persevere I can sometime get it to work. I appreciate not many people use Right Button down DnD but I've been using it for decades -- to move rather than copy, and vice versa, to create shortcuts, to create hard and soft links with Link Shell Extension etc etc. Apart from Windows I can't think of anything I've changed in recent times - same computer, same mouse, same mouse pad even


    I have tried Safe Mode and I have killed every non essential task, but the problem persists. I haven't added or changed any software that might conceivably have effected this, nor have I changed any mouse settings knowingly - but maybe Windows Update has.


    This is what I have, afaik they've been like that since I bought this computer in Aug 2017.

    Any ideas or suggestions are welcome - except switch to Linux.

    Drag and Drop


    When using "Drag and Drop":
    • "Alt + left mouse button" to create a Link/Shortcut
    • "Ctrl + left mouse button" to Copy the file
    • "Shift + left mouse button" to Move the file

    How to drag and drop programs to desktop


    I don't use Edge, but I have read that it gives no option about where to save downloads - they are always saved into your Downloads folder. So it would be a two step process. (1) download it (2) drag and drop from Downloads to Desktop.

    By the way, it's a good habit to always use the right mouse button for drag and drop. Then you can choose between move or copy or create shortcut.

    Hi funkink. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

    Right click Start button to open Task Manager, if necessary Show More Details, then on Processes tab locate Windows Proceses section, then scroll further dwon to Windows Explorer. Right click to Restart. Test drag and drop again.

    Others have reported you can assist Drag and Drop by pressing the Escape key,
