Windows 10: Right Click does not work on Quick Launch/Start Menu items, works everywhere else

Right clicking on ANY quick launch shortcut or Start Menu items does not bring up the context menu.Left clicking still launches the application. Right click on taskbar and system icons still works, right click on Start menu icon still works.This just started this morning no updates that I can see were done except the May 1st Windows Defender Update. Disabling the real-time protection, etc. does not change the result.

Start Menu and Quick Launch


Hi, I upgraded to Windows 10 today, however the start menu will not open, and only certain items work when I right click on the windows icon. Also, the quick launch icons on the task bar do not work, and won't even let me right click them.

Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated! It's doing my head in now!

 

Right click on start menu items not working for 8 items.

This is on a Windows 11 system.

The problem is that some items on the right click start menu do not come up which are Event Viewer, Device manager, Disk Management, Computer Management, Terminal, Terminal Admin, Task Manager, and File Explorer. All others come right up and start.

I have all updates applied and security patches applied. I suspected maybe a registry problem? Not sure when the problem started, just ignored the problem since I could start the programs from search.

I tried using DISM and rebuilt successfully. Did the sfc scan for corrupted files. And tried reregistering apps for the start menu.

I have tried all the following:

1. Modify the UseExperience registry value
   
2. Run PowerShell cmdlet
   
3. Replace contents of the WinX folder
   
4. Check in Clean Boot State.
   
5. Restart File Explorer
   

Any other things I can try to fix the right click on start menu items?

It seems to be functions from the Control Panel that do not work but the newer things from Windows settings do work.

 

Start menu not working

I found the following article, ran the suggested powershell command and my start menu is working again. Here it is as I found it:
Go to Start menu button and right click on it. This will open the contextual menu, after which you need to select Command Prompt (Admin). Once Command Prompt is open, go ahead with the following steps.

• Type and enter: Powershell
• Type the following: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
