Windows 10: Right clicking pinned Notepad on taskbar shows duplicate items

Have been looking for a way to fix this and coming up empty. I keep Notepad Not notepad++ pinned to my taskbar. When I Right click I get the context menu and I have pinned items that I used often. However, most of the items are duplicated. If I unpin an item both listings go away, but as soon as I re-pin both come back. Both items also will open the corresponding file.How can I get this to only show each item once as it used to be?I tried to upload an image here but I can't from my work computer.Thank you.

Can't right-click notepad icon in taskbar

See if clearing the file 9b9cdc69c1c24e2b.automaticDestinations-ms from AutomaticDestinations folder helps.

Open Command Prompt and type:

del "%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations\9b9cdc69c1c24e2b.automaticDestinations-ms"

This clears out the Jumplist items for Notepad.

(Regardless, you should be able to Pin Notepad by right-clicking the Notepad shortcut in Accessories folder, and clicking Pin to taskbar.)

 

Pinning a Notepad file to taskbar.

This is no longer possible, but there is a small different due to a feature called Jumplist. If you keep the Notepad shortcut pinned to the Taskbar, you should be able to access the frequently accessed file from the Notepad jump list. Just right click
Notepad and you should see the file, you can pin it within the list so its always available.

 

8 year old bug? Taskbar is sometimes showing a duplicate Notepad icon when opening text files

Notepad will sometimes appear as a duplicate icon on the taskbar when opening a textfile (*.txt). Other times it activates the pinned Notepad icon on the taskbar which is normal behaviour. The pinned icon works correctly i.e. it shows the Pinned and Recent sections when I right click on it. Any ideas?
