Windows 10: Ripgrep rg.exe causing stop code errors in latest Dev Channel build 22593.1

I am connecting to a same-network Ubuntu server via a mapped network drive and Samba in order to store files. In those files, I have some scripts and code that I frequently work on with VS Code.When opening the folder in VS Code and searching, the host system will GSOD and throw an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error referencing ntoskrnl.exe. Of note: this behavior is also exhibited when searching using grepWin, and it not unique to VS Code. The same stop code is thrown when trying to grep the mapped network drive.After reviewing the dump file, it appears that rg.exe is causing the stop code. I reins

Thank you f14tomcat! Definitely cleared things up. I suppose I will stay on the dev build for now until I have a reason not to. If a future build is too buggy I guess I'll have to clean install anyways.

You can't really do this, as this would be a downgrade. Just set it to release preview or beta, those are fairly stable and less frequently updated compared to the dev ring and then tick the opt out checkbox just below. These are at the windows insider settings in pc settings. No need to reinstall, you will slowly, over the next two months, be rolled out of insider, back onto a beta or a retail build.

If you still want a reinstall then wipe it clean as suggested.

 

Stop getting Windows Insider Dev Channel builds

There is no direct relationship between Dev builds and public RTM builds, or for that matter, even with Beta and Release Preview. I know, all confusing as heck. If that is your main computer, and you have Dev build on it (old Fast Ring), you are faced with a clean install to get back to RTM. That is the bottom line. I know you don't want to hear that, but please don't shoot the messenger.

If you no longer want to receive Insider preview builds, you'll have to unenroll your device. If you don't leave the program though, you will continue to receive emails. To unenroll your device:

1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program > Stop Insider Preview Builds to see your options.
2. If you're in the Beta Channel or the Release Preview Channel, you can flip the switch to stop stop getting preview builds on your device when the next major release of Windows 10 launches to the public.
3. If you're in the Dev Channel or you'd like to stop getting preview builds immediately, you should use these instructions to complete a clean installation of Windows 10.
