  1. Root folder update name and registry references

    Hello,

First of all let me point out that I have tried this: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...users-in/ed70f119-0dd3-422f-a3f9-6dcff3a2bcad

Perhaps it should be noted I only have Windows 10, not Windows 10 Pro

After I had restarted, I kept getting a message saying "Location is not available" for my desktop, documents and pictures - which I solved by going back into the registry editor and doing a find "garet" and replacing every reference I could with my proper name, Gareth. I don't know if changing all that was necessary, but I did come across a few relating to OneDrive which I'm 99% sure solved this issue.

However, there are a few sections I cannot update; NormalizedPath is one and Windows Search URL paths is another.

Should I now give up and use my restore point or can I continue on?
My fear would be that whenever I try and carry out a search through Windows Explorer it will spend eternity looking at the wrong path…

    Kind regards,
    Gareth

    :)

  2. Moved a folder from another drive and rename and it still shows as the old folder name in certain places

    Hi Nick,

I suggest you to try the steps provided below and check the behavior.

    • Create a new folder name it as 'My Videos'.
    • Now copy/cut and paste the contents which are in the folder "Videos", and delete the folder "Videos".
    • Now check the behavior.
Please keep us updated with the status of the folder, to assist you further.

    Regards,

  3. I changed my user folder name

You could use a registry hack to tell Windows to look elsewhere for your user profile folder but this is not recommended because there are numerous reference elsewhere to this folder. I can see these options for you:

    • Restore the original folder name
    • Create a new account, this time with the desired user name.

Root folder update name and registry references

Unable to delete a folder - Invalid folder name

    Suggestion:
    1. Run chkdsk x: /r to make sure that there's no HD corruption.
x: is the drive containing the folder you want to delete.
    2. Try to delete the folder again. If still does not work, go to step 3.
    3. Download: Download - Linux Mint and create a bootable USB using: Rufus - Create bootable USB
    4. Boot up with Linux Mint and try to delete the folder again.
NOTE: Unlike WinPE. Linux does not have any Windows permission imposed to it so it is easier to delete.
