  1. Root user on Ubuntu on Windows sees mounted USB drive but not normal user after hibernation

Long time linux user here, but new WSL/Ubuntu user. Here's my scenario:- I start "Ubuntu on Windows" for the first time after laptop boot.- My non-root user can list, read, and write files on a mounted external USB drive mounted as /mnt/e.- I step away from my laptop for a bit and the laptop hibernates suspends?.- I return and re-authenticate to Windows 11.- My Ubuntu window is still up and running, but my non-root user can no longer see files on the /mnt/e USB drive.- If I switch to the root user, root CAN see the drive. I even switch back to my non-root user from root -- no dice, still

    :)

Restrict normal user to format USB drive in WIndows 10

I want to restrict normal users to be able to format USB drive in Windows 10. I configure a local group policy as described in the following article to allow only administrators group to format drive.

Devices Allowed to format and eject removable media (Windows 10) - Windows security

By the way after perform testing, normal user (non-admin) is still able to format USB drive.

Is there any other step we need to do

    Regards,

User folders in root C: drive

In my new Windows 10, these folders were generated:

    • Intel
    • PerfLogs
    • Program Files
    • Program Files (x86)
    • Users
    • Windows
Is there a policy of users generating new folders in this root C: drive?

On my old W7 PC I had several folders in C:, providing a shorter path for applications.

E.g. Is there an advantage when new Windows software is installed?

  4. Root user on Ubuntu on Windows sees mounted USB drive but not normal user after hibernation

Access a drive that is trapped in hibernate

I have a SSD from a laptop that recently died. I am trying to get the files of the laptop off of the drive but am currently at a loss for how to proceed.

I put the SSD in a USB 3 enclosure and hooked it up to a desktop. The drive will mount in Windows and shows that it has roughly ~150Gb free space of ~480Gb. Explorer will access the first level of the drive (ie Logs, Program Files, Users, Windows) however
it can't see past that. It tells me that access has been denied. Attempts to change the permissions also results in access denied.

I used an Ubuntu live usb to see if the drive could be accessed this way since it won't ask for permissions. Ubuntu was unable to mount the drive and said that it was in hibernate and I should go back to Windows and properly shut it down. Hibernate had
    been disabled on the laptop.

I opened up the desktop and disconnected all of the internal drives so that this SSD was the only drive available. The desktop would not boot and just hangs at the bios splash screen. It also does this when the other drives are connected, if the SSD is
connected it will hang at the splash screen.

I have no idea how to go about getting the data off of this drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
