Routinely using hibernate instead of shutting down

Because some "support engineers" have reading comprehension problems and like to post irrelevant things from KB articles that MIGHT be tangentially related and then mark them as the "answer", I'm bolding and underlining the key question so they can distinguish it from background information. Many years ago, back when my aunt got a brand new, then state of the art Windows 2000 laptop she told me about a "trick" to speed up booting up the laptop. Her trick was to use "hibernate" instead of "shut down". She said she hasn't used shut down since discovering it.At this point in time almost 25 years

    :)

    hibernate, but shuts down

    Hello,

We suggest to manually setup hibernation on your computer. You may follow the steps below:

    • Right-click on your desktop and select Personalize.
    • Click Lock screen>Screen saver settings>Change power settings>Choose what the power buttons do.

    • Change the settings When I press the power button, click
      hibernate.
    • Click Save changes.
    Keep us posted.

    Regards.

Routinely using hibernate instead of shutting down

Windows shuts down incorrectly, instead of hibernating or sleeping.

I have an MSI Apache GE72 6QD Pro and I am having issues with the ability to use both sleep and hibernate mode. Every time I select these options in the power menu, instead of going into these power states the system actually shuts off. I have tried the
    following:

    • Updating my BIOS to the most recent version.
    • Creating a new power plan.
    • Going into an elevated CMD window and typing "powercfg /h on".
    • Checking for driver updates of all important drivers.
And still the issue persists. It seems that the computer tries to go into the selected state and then does a hard shut down (firefox knows that it has been closed as if the power button was held for 5 seconds, instead of the proper shutdown method). The
silly thing is that "Shut down" works perfectly fine, and actually closes open programs properly before turning off the system. The other two options seem to only force a shut down.
