Windows 10: RPC service grayed out

Hi, i am trying to disable the RPC service on my windows 10 22H2 pro but its grayed out. can i ask why is it grayed out and if i have any way to turn it on?

As you receive an error: The remote procedure call failed, I suggest you to check the status of Remote Procedure Call locator service.

Step 1: Make sure the Remote Procedure Call status is Started and set to Automatic. RPC Locator should be set to Manual. Follow the below steps for the same:

• Press Windows + R keys from the keyboard to open
  Run command.
• Type services.msc in the search box and press
  Enter.
• Search for the Remote Procedure Call locator service
• Make sure the Start-up type is Manual.
  

Steps to set the services to Automatic

• Right click on the service
• If the service is stopped then Start the service
• Select Properties
• And in the Start-up type, select Manual.

Step 2: If the service is already started and set to manual, then run
System file checker (SFC) scan on your computer.

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Right click on the Start button, click on
  Command Prompt (Admin).
  
• 
  Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and hit
  Enter.
  
• 
  After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue.

Windows image backup and RPC service

I was having an issue creating a windows 10 image backup which kept on failing and on the advice of info I got online and the steps to remedy

it was to make sure 2 services were set to automatic from manual. The 1st service was the block level backup engine service, the 2nd was the Remote procedure call (RPC). I set both to auto and started them. The windows backup image was successful after doing this. I then went back in to put both services back to manual. The block level service worked but when I tried to put the RPC back to manual all was greyed out and could not set it to manual. I booted to safe mode to try again but all was still greyed out. I am logged in as an admin.

Will leaving the RPC service on auto be an issue and why won't windows allow me to set it back to manual which is the default setting?

I am on Windows 10 v21H2

 

"The RPC service is unavailable"


I'm monitoring workstations using WMIC.
In a few cases, I'm getting "The RPC service is unavailable".
There is quite an extensive bunch of settings on the workstation that are used to make this possible - permissions, ports, etc.
Occasionally all of these setting efforts don't seem to work.
Turning off the Windows firewall does no good - so it's not the firewall it appears.
The RPC service is running.
DCOM permissions are set but which ones seem to be a question. I'm afraid that some writers just throw the kitchen sink at this and call for more than are needed.
It seems I'm looking for an obscure setting that's not on my list for setup.

I know this is quite an open question but I'm running out of ideas. I have a couple of computers that are doing this right now and haven't been able to fix them (out of around 50 computers).
