There seems to be a permanent "Run as administrator" entry in my right-click context menu. If I click on this for anything but an executable or shortcut to an executable, Windows 10 throws the below error, even if I do have a program associated with the file type.

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Locked out of folders!

I would try a System Restore which I do when my computer gets messed up usually from some program I installed.

Dear Derek, you get the error because Unity is not intended to open .fbx files. Still, you can import them into the program with the aforementioned procedure.

You can try to contact Official Unity3d support for more detailed information:

Please let us know if this helps.

    Ciao

Why would you want to open a non-exectable file with administrator rights ? That was never an option.

Some software patches require the need to choose run-as-admin.

This is a wild guess -- are you attempting to use explorer.exe to tree-climb, pick something, click on that something? If so, it's possible that your explorer.exe operations are corrupt. I can fix Windows 7 when this happens, however, I do not know how to fix Windows 8+ or 10, if it is indeed an explorer.exe corruption problem.

Run as administrator -> This file does not have a program associated..

There seems to be some confusion about this ... so, here are a couple screen-shots to help show what's happening.

The first one shows me right-clicking on a TXT file. You'll notice the option for "Run as administrator". If I opt for this, it will generate the error from my original post.

Run as administrator -> This file does not have a program associated.. [IMG]

The second one shows me right-clicking on an EXE file. It also has "Run as administrator". If I opt for this, it will work as expected.

It's worth noting that this computer is an upgrade from Windows 7, and not a clean install.

Windows 7 never had the option to "Run as administrator" for anything but executable files. I have no clue where this option is coming from in Win10.

    Hello Itwally, *Smile

You shouldn't have "Run as administrator" on a non executable file like a .log file. This is why you are getting the error.

It seems like you may have used something that added "Run as administrator" to the context menu of all files?

If you like, downloading and merging the .reg file below should remove "Run as administrator" from the context menu of .log files. If you have any other file types this happens with afterwards, then please let me know what they are, and I'll modify the .reg file to include them as well.

    Brink,

Run as admin is available or all file types. I'm fairly certain it was not under Windows 7.

I looked over your REG file, and allowed it to modify the registry. No dice. Wherever this context menu entry is coming from, it isn't HKCR\* or HKCR\.log

    Thanks

In that case, use the Find and Find next feature in Registry Editor to search for runas to see what locations it's under. Post them here, and I'll be happy to take a look to see what shouldn't be there before deleting anything.
