Windows 10: Run shortcut as admin greyed out?

Hello,

I have a specific Ableton project file that I want to run as admin, but I don't want to always run Ableton as admin. By making a shortcut of the project, I now have an extra tab in the Properties menu labeled "Shortcut", in which I have the option to run as admin (Properties>Shortcut>Advanced>Run as administrator). But this "Run as administrator" checkbox is greyed out!!

I read on another website that the reason for this is that the file is not an exe. Here, it says that I need to add the executable to the shortcut target (for example: "C:\Scripts\helloworld.js" would need to become "cscript.exe C:\Scripts\helloworld.js").



This isn't working for me. Currently my shortcut's target is set to (including quotations):

"C:\Users\Evan\Documents\Ableton Projects\lazyboysundaes Project\lazyboysundaes.als"

I tried setting it to:

Ableton Live 9 Standard.exe "C:\Users\Evan\Documents\Ableton Projects\lazyboysundaes Project\lazyboysundaes.als"

and (notice quotation placement):

"Ableton Live 9 Standard.exe C:\Users\Evan\Documents\Ableton Projects\lazyboysundaes Project\lazyboysundaes.als"

and (without quotation):

Ableton Live 9 Standard.exe C:\Users\Evan\Documents\Ableton Projects\lazyboysundaes Project\lazyboysundaes.als



No matter which way I address it, upon clicking Apply I am presented with an error message "The name 'Ableton' specified in the Target box is not valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct." If I choose the option that starts with quotation marks, then instead of 'Ableton' the error message reads out the whole address.

Is there a way I'm supposed to word it differently so I can get that checkbox working? Is there something else I'm doing wrong? Any help greatly appreciated!!

I assume you don't have 'exit' anywhere in your batch file?

Rather than playing with 'pause' - if you want to see the output...

1. Open a command window as admin
2. Run the batch file manually
3. Command window will not close unless the 'exit' command is issued
4. Read output

That's the first step I'd take to diagnose. Then run every line in your batch file manually, one-by-one, in your admin command window (copy and paste from the actual batch file, don't retype the commands).

You'll soon find your problem.
