  1. Running system on new M.2

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 3583. It came with a 128 GB M.2 drive to run the system, I upgraded to a 1TB M.2 and a 1TB 2.5" SSD drive. I tried to use Marcum Reflect and Diskgenius to copy the system. I tried on a thumb drive first. It copied but wouldn't boot correctly. I ended up putting the original M.2 in and put the new 2.5" ssd drive and copied everything over to the 2.5" ssd. Then took out the M.2 and put the new one in. I tried to copy everything over to the M.2 since it is faster than the 2.5" ssd. I was thinking about using the 2.5" ssd as extra storage. When I copied eve

  2. New M.2

Thanks for providing the Dump files.

Sorry for my late response, I was offline.

The issue might be because of corrupted system files. Please follow the steps I mentioned below and let me know how it goes:

Step 1: Initially, you have to press “Windows” and “R”.

Step 2: Run will appear, you have to type cmd in the text field and press “Enter” button.

Step 3: Command prompt window will appear, enter “sfc/scannow” without quotes and hit on Enter button.

It will start system scanning and take some time to repair corrupted system files depending on the size of the data.

If the above steps didn't work it might be because of your Ram. Kindly follow the steps below:

Step 1: First of all, you have to press and hold “Windows” key plus “R” key at the same time to open Run.

Step 2: Now, you have to enter “Mdsched” and hit on “Enter” button.

Step 3: Then, Windows memory diagnostic tool window will appear with two options.

Step 4: One has to click on the “Restart now and check for problems (Recommended).

Step 5: Your computer will automatically reboot your computer and redirect you into the Windows Memory Diagnostics process.

I hope this helps Running system on new M.2 :)

  3. My m.2 ssd is recognized in bios, but not as a boot device

Thank you very much for reaching out! As an Independent Advisor and fellow Microsoft user, I'm more than happy to assist you.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

    1. Check BIOS Settings

Ensure that your BIOS settings are correctly configured to recognize the M.2 SSD as a boot device:

    • Enable CSM (Compatibility Support Module): Sometimes, enabling CSM can help the BIOS recognize the SSD as a boot device. You can find this option under the Boot tab in the BIOS settings.
    • Set Boot Priority: Make sure the M.2 SSD is set as the first boot device in the boot priority list.
    2. Update BIOS

Updating your motherboard's BIOS to the latest version can resolve compatibility issues with new hardware:

    • Visit the ASUS official website to download the latest BIOS update for your ROG Strix B650 Wi-Fi motherboard.
    3. Reinstall the SSD

Ensure that the M.2 SSD is properly installed:

    • Remove the SSD and reinsert it firmly into the M.2 slot. Make sure it is securely fastened with the screw.
    4. Initialize the SSD

If the SSD is new, it might need to be initialized:

    • Boot into Windows using another drive, open Disk Management, and initialize the SSD as either MBR or GPT.
    5. Check for Drive Mode Compatibility

Ensure that the M.2 slot you are using supports the type of SSD you have (SATA vs. NVMe):

    • Some M.2 slots only support either SATA or NVMe, not both. Refer to your motherboard manual to confirm compatibility.
    6. Repair Boot Configuration

If the SSD has Windows installed but is not recognized as a boot device, you might need to repair the boot configuration:

    • Boot from a Windows installation USB, go to the command prompt, and use the following commands:

This can help rebuild the boot configuration data.
    7. Check for Hardware Issues

If none of the above steps work, there might be a hardware issue with the SSD or the motherboard:

    • Test the SSD in another system to see if it is recognized as a boot device.
    • If the SSD works in another system, the issue might be with the motherboard. Consider contacting ASUS support for further assistance.
Please feel free to reach out if you require any additional assistance. I'm here to help!

    Running system on new M.2

Is NVMe M.2 expected to run relatively hot?

    Hi, all.

I’m new to M.2/NVMe memory (just got a new build, and used M.2/NVMe for the first time). Here are the main specs of the machine:

    • OS: Win10 Professional (version 20H2, OS Build 19042.867)
    • CPU: Intel Core i7-10700K 3.80 GHz (overclocked to 4.9GHz)
    • CPU cooling: Corsair H100i Pro XT RGB
    • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition
    • RAM: 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 3200MHz RGB
    • Mobo: MSI MPG Z490 Gaming EDGE WiFi
    • PSU: Corsair 850RM
    • OS Disk: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB PCIe NVMe M.2
    • Storage Disk: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2TB
I’m a little startled by how hot this M.2 module is running. Is this normal? I had been playing AC Valhalla with all graphics maxed out for 30 mins or so. The first capture was taken immediately after I quit the game, going to the desktop. HD0 is the storage SSD, and HD1 is the M.2/NVMe module. Do these NVMe units always run so hot? The second screenshot was taken about 10 mins after I stopped playing.

I also had HWiNFO64 running while playing. I checked the Drives info afterwards and for that 970 EVO NVMe M.2 it lists both the Warning Temp threshold and Critical Temp threshold as 85C, but it also shows the Time Above Warning and Time Above Critical thresholds as zero minutes.I realize I can always add a fan or two (easy enough to do), but I just wanted to check to see if this is expected for this time of storage.

    Thanks in advance!
