How can I create a custom desktop theme?

Run exactly

control /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper

from a WIN+R (Run) command prompt to get back to the old wallpaper chooser that has an infinite color selector available for solid color backgrounds.

 

Window color and appearance

You can still reach the old personalisation settings by searching for 'Control Panel' then clicking it, but as of now you can only change the theme. This does not include the font colors (only windows, background, and sounds), as they only apply to desktop
(old) apps. The equivalent setting for the modern apps is probably still in development, or will be integrated into the new color chooser (or both).

Now to any members that want to change colors in windows, download this tool!
It is a UI to change the colors in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors and has also an option to use external colors(just choose a color with your mouse from your wallpaper or a photo,, add it to custom colors on the color pallette, shut external colors off, click your custom color and you can then apply it/them to the registry)

Cool Cliff, Was kinda worried as the updater didn't work on my work machine when I tested it.... debugged it and it was a proxy setting violation... go figure..

 

Hey Craig, I have an addition for SMACC, you can add if you wish.

I have been using one of the icons that Horace(@Hopachi) posted in the other thread a while ago, as a custom tile pack(almost since the beginning):

One only needs to place the folder where it won't get moved, and pin the .exe to Start.

The slider for colorization color seems to be screwing up the choice for AccentColor & AccentColorInactive. I gives the opposite of what's been selected. I mean I choose blue, it shows as blue on the color bar(?) but when applied it is red. And that no matter what setting for the slider I choose*Confused

Aw shucks... tried to get clever with transparency on Accent, which it does not accept ... will fix and upload later...

BTW - I notice ColorizationColor gets set the same colour as Accent when changing the latter via Personalization with the addition of a set 196 alpha value. Changing either from SMACC only affects titlebars, and not taskbar/startmenu.

I didn't know about the update.
When you just update the first post, it doesn't show up as a new post notification. Could you also write a new version post(like I do in my software update threads) so it shows up in notification?

BTW how would one implement cursors? Currently is just a raw xml file with paths - would it be a folder that's included as part of the themepack's cab file and gets extracted to a certain path? I guess the path to each cursor still has to included in the theme file.

 

I opened a theme from one of the Pro's(UXStyles) and it shows this for the cursor portion in the .theme file:

Can someone post some screenshots of how Word, Firefox, Excel might look like? The high contrast themes are horrible in that respect.

 

Here is a screenshot of Excel and Optimize drives while I have an AeroHybrid theme applied.
An AeroHybrid theme is when I use SMACC in normal Windows Aero mode and not high contrast.
SMACC lets you use some(but not all) of the keys that normally are set aside for high contrast, but instead of manually doing it in Regedit, you now have a visual, and a color picker tool, which is useful when you theme around wallpaper, and cand select colors right from your desktop wallpaper.
