Windows 10: Sabrent USB 3.0 HD enclosure won't initialize. "Unknown. Not Installed." It also said...

I recently reformatted my computer & the HD would not work afterwards.It also works flawlessly when I just unplug it and plug it into another PC.I have read a few other posts and they seem to end before it gets resolved. I've gone to Asus and downloaded/installed all of the latest drivers & bios. All of the latest Windows updates are installed & there are no drivers to roll back to. I've uninstalled the disk & all of the usb controllers & connectors.The error occurs after trying to click Offline or Initialize. Initialize seems to be greyed out after installing new drivers.T

We understand that the HDD enclosure is not getting detected in Asus Vivo book, we will look into this for you. However, it would be great if you can help us with the information requested below:

• Are you able to connect any other device to the laptop?
  
• Do you see any Unknown Device in Device Manager?
  

As you have mentioned that you are have already tried updating the drivers and didn’t find the HDD enclosure showing in Device Manager, follow the steps mentioned below and check if that helps:



Method 1: Check Unknown devices



We can check if the HDD enclosure shows as an Unknown device. If it shows as an Unknown device, we can try to update the drivers.

1. Press Windows key + X, and select
   Device Manager.
   
2. In Device Manager window, check if there is a section of
   Unknown device.
   
3. If you see Unknown device, right click on it and select
   Update Device.
   
4. If prompted, restart the computer.
   

Method 2:



I suggest you to follow the steps from the article
Error: “USB Device not recognized” when you try to access a USB external hard drive expect Method 2 and see if that makes any difference.



You may also check if there is Intel Rapid Storage driver available in the computer manufacturer’s website. If any, I suggest you to install it and check.

Can't access drives in external USB 3 enclosures

Thanks for the suggestions.

I took a look at their forum, and there's practically no activity there. There was no mention of this issue there.

The thing is those drives all work fine if I connect the enclosures via esata. They come right up and work fine. It's only when I connect the enclosure using USB 3.0 that the drives aren't recognized. Per Icy Dock's suggestion in an email I received, I tried starting the enclosure with just 1 drive inside, and it still wasn't recognized over USB 3.0.

When I set up my new PC a few months ago, I installed all the latest drivers, direct from Gigabyte, my motherboard manufacturer. I'll also mention that I have an old USB 2.0 enclosure by another manufacturer and that is instantly recognized in my motherboard's USB 3.0 ports. So the only enclosures that don't work are the Icy Dock enclosures and only when connected via USB 3.0.

 

Can't access drives in external USB 3 enclosures

Find someone who has a computer with Windows 10 to test the device. We cannot contribute anything other then keep repeating the same troubleshooting steps over and over.
