Sad news --Slysoft (AnyDVD forced to shut down)

    Hi there

I'm glad I got my copy before they shut down yesterday --not sure what the Movie industry is up to -- it's much more convenient storing DVD's etc on to a HDD and playing them at home via a server / NAS box --I don't want or need to carry around loads of physical DVD's -- apart from the hideous amount of storage they consume - and the toxic material used to produce these too.

(Note MakeMKV is still around for ripping - but for how much longer too).

  2. Windows 10 with nVidia card repeatedly crashing, requiring system restore to reboot

I finally got to the point where I get fed up and I used the "Reset my Computer" function to reinstall Windows 10 while keeping my files.

This seemed to fix the issue for a while. Then, interesting thing: I installed Slysoft AnyDVD and Cyberlink PowerDVD 14 and watched a movie on Blu-ray—and suddenly it was back to the same behavior, freezing up on inactivity and requiring three reboots
and a system restore to fix.

I tried completely uninstalling AnyDVD and PowerDVD and my computer was back to working normally again.

Given that AnyDVD doesn't directly access the video card, I'm starting to wonder if this might be a specific issue with how PowerDVD works with Windows 10?

  3. Videos prob

there are some free converters available...i use slysoft products...they are solid!

you can get them free trial to try them.
    http://www.slysoft.com/en/

you will need to use the anydvd/anydvdHD and then the clonedvd mobile.

and there is a way to create an automatic formating for the n900....i will attach the file you need here so that you can just substitute it for the default.

then when you open the software to convert, all the parameters are already there and you just select the nokia n900 unit and it will do the rest.

you will need to put this into the directory:

    C:/programs/slysoft/clonedvdmobile/devices.ini

(note: if you are using win7, then it will be in the

    C:/programs(x86)/slysoft/clonedvdmobile/devices.ini)

EDIT: it would not let me upload the devices.ini file.

    i have uploaded it
    HERE
where you can download and use.

  4. Sad news --Slysoft (AnyDVD forced to shut down)

    Thanks for the info

AnyDVD is not something I have used, but I hope this doesn't start happening to other rippers also
Like you I buy DVD's then rip for personal use as having the file on a media server is easier than going through lots of discs

If the movie industries want to promote digital downloads, then that's fine by me, but first make sure that if I buy a digital copy it is mine to keep forever and not linked with DRM to the store I bought it from, so I can play it however I wish (same as music industry now)

  5. Yep, this is sad news. Luckily I have my copy of AnyDVD and cloneDVD backed up with associated keys. Hopefully I can continue to use them to rip digital copies of my own dvds, for my own use. Shame on the movie industry, this won't stop pirates. It just isolates legitimate buyers even more. Because of Slysoft I actually buy more dvds because I want to build a digital library for myself. If I can't do that I will simply stop buying them.

My only hope is MS don't send a toxic update tumbling down the pipe to cripple the software. I wouldn't put it past them. They already destroyed much of my physical game collection circa 2002-2009 by squashing securom and safedisc!

  6. Out of interest, what software do you use? I guess I need to be on alert for alternatives in case the worst happens

You can still download it from here but of course it will expire eventually I guess, but you could mess around putting it in a fresh vm each time you needed it. It won't be long though before this links and other die.

  8. Sad news --Slysoft (AnyDVD forced to shut down)

I use WinX DVD Ripper, last I looked it costs about the same as AnyDVD, but I think they do a cut down free version also
This works for 99% of things I have tried, for others I use MakeMKV

One of my main concerns about these closing down is what happens if you do a re install, we still have the license key, but does it do an online check to validate it when installing?

  9. Hmmm, good question. I don't know, I will see if the slysoft forum can advise on this as that's still functioning

Just tried a clean install of anydvd in a VM where it has never been installed with internet switched off, and then applying my registry key.

It installs ok as a 21 day trial basis, but adding the my normal registry key changes does not work any more - it remains a trial, so obviously it needs to go on line to activate. I will leave it in VM for 22 days and see if it stops working or just gives error messages (not very hopeful of course). I am sure some clever bod will find a way round this sooner or later.

Sad news --Slysoft (AnyDVD forced to shut down)

    Hi there

I'm still using MAKEMKV as I don't really need to save the ISO (I don't need all the menus etc) --Makemkv allows subtitles too (soft burn in -- not enforced if you wish).

However I still have AnyDVD for cases where I might still need an ISO - I can then re-burn this on to a physical DVD if I actually need to play it on a "Real stand alone DVD player" if anybody still has those in the age of NAS boxes and Smart TV's.

If I need to switch from MKV to another codec then Handbrake is fine --rip to MKV first - it's uncompressed and then say use Handbrake to convert to H265 or whatever.

Hollywood to me is "Yesterday's Technology Tomorrow".

This decision to go for this company is totally BONKERS - and will just encourage people to scour the well known torrent sites for these movies etc.

I'll bet sites like KAT and "The Jolly Rodger" -- still going strong after I don't know how many years of people trying to get it shut probably are thinking XMAS has come early this year. !!!!

Sad day for people who want to get rd of old fashioned things like DVD's -- suggest you get in touch with your local "Green Party" councillor etc -- DVD's have a HUGE amount of toxic material used in their construction. I know SSD's and HD's doo too - but think how many DVD's you can store on say an array of 4 X 4 TB HDD's. !!!!!

BTW - Here's a 100% LEGAL way of downloading excellent programs from BBC so you can watch at your leisure without having to record or whatever

Download get_iplayer -- also Linux -- there's also a GUI for people scare of the CLI.
typical command to get best quality program : get_iplayer --get --modes=best --subtitles --pid=xxxxxxx where xxxx is the episode nr you can get from the standard BBC iplayer application. For radio add: --type=radio and delete the modes=best and subtitles.

Brilliant application if you like BBC stuff and want to keep and play at your leisure.

  14. Will be interesting to see what you get on the 22nd day. On the slysoft forum the discussion continues. Someone said they activated it ok offline by using the reganydvd.exe tool which is in the programs folder after installation. You use it to navigate to your key. Hopefully that will be ok for the future should it be needed.

    Hi there

an easy way - and also to have a dig back at the Hollywood companies would be to declare the Software as "Abandonware" and release a Generic key. Then they would have the last laugh and could exit gracefully from the scene. I expect sooner or later someone will create either a Keygen or the software will re-appear under a different title.

    Cheers
