    Safe eject has issues?

Hello, i've noticed an interesting fact while i was working with few usb's . Windows 10 , at least mine cannot eject usb's no matter if you just plugged it in , safe eject doesn't work . There is a message coming up "this device is currently in use close all programs...."
Anyone else who has encountered it as well and can share thoughts?

  2. Safely Remove Hardware - Windows 10

I have been using this technique for safely ejecting hardware for some time. In the past, Windows always informed me "when" it was safe to remove the hardware after right-clicking and selecting "eject". Recently Windows 10 has stopped giving me that warning.
    What happened?

I agree that the "safely remove" icon should be restored to Windows 10

  3. 'Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media' tray icon does not inform on successful ejection

    Hello,

Thank you for your update on the issue.

'Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media' is a notification that the corresponding hardware has been unmounted and can be ejected. As the notification is self-explanatory that your hardware will not have any issue once ejected, there is no further notification
    stating safe removal.

Hope this information is helpful. Do let us know if you need any further assistance, we will be glad to assist you.

    Safe eject has issues?

This isn't a Windows 10 specific issue - it always happens. There are various ways to find what is locking it but the easiest is to log out and in.

Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage Device This device is currently - Microsoft Community

Personally I just ignore the message - it has never caused any issue but don't do that if you are in the middle of copying something or if you don't have the drive set for "quick removal" as described in post 3 of the first link.

    I've encountered it for years.
Most times it's been because of an obvious program that's using it (including Windows Explorer)
I usually try to kill it through Task Manager.
If that doesn't work, then I just yank it out (if I'm really concerned about the drive, then I'll shut the system down and remove it when the system is off).
It doesn't seem to cause problems though, although after a month or two of pulling them in/out (at work) there will be a need to scan it.
When scanned the system doesn't seem to find any problems.

FWIW - I avoid most problems by copying to the Desktop (rather than launching from the USB drive) - and then launching from there. I currently use a SanDisk 128 gB USB3 flash drive at work - and I put it in/take it out about 30 times a day.

It's called "Safe Eject" because it won't Eject if any files are in use. In other words, it's doing it's job. So, this is not an issue with Safe Eject, but rather your expectation of what Safe Eject does.

You assume that Safe Eject should always eject the drive, but do so in a safe manner. While the reality is that it Will try to eject the drive (ie dismount) but fail if anything is in use.

Most likely this happens when you try to eject it right away is because something is scanning the drive, such as Anti-virus or Windows Explorer. If you wait a few minutes, you should be able to eject it. If that still doesn't work, and you find you have this problem often, you may have some software on your system that keeps files open. You might want to download a program like TaskInfo to find which programs have the files or the drive locked.

    Safe eject has issues?

I just open This PC and click on the USB drive and choose eject anyway. It works.

This was a problem in build 10130 (and earlier?), It has been fixed in the latest builds.
The original post was back in March.

  11. I am here to say that this problem is still an issue. It just happened to me today.

When I try to eject my USB3 flash drive using Safely Remove Hardware, most of the time I get a message that says "This device is currently in use" or "Problem Ejecting USB".
I get these messages even though there is no activity on the flash drive.

Windows 8.1 and 7 never gave me this kind of a hassle. And if I just yank out the flash drive, sometimes I get a message that says my flash drive needs to be scanned and repaired. Although it never finds anything.
Windows 10 is doing something different to the flash drive that 8.1 & 7 did not do.

I also have a problem with safe eject in windows 10. No error messages though, safe eject shows drive letter but no other info. Also it is grayed out and inoperative. I always have to shut down the system. This happens with any drive 500mg or bigger.

  14. HA! I just found my problem. The culprit is with AVG Free. I had to go to Advanced Settings - Computer Protection - AntiVirus - and look under AntiVirus Settings - And uncheck "Scan boot sector of removable media". Click Apply then OK and then reboot. Now I can eject my flash drive.

Sorry this did not fix the problem*Mad

  15. What about trying this:
Insert your USB drive, open Explorer, right click on your USB drive and select properties.
Click on the hardware tab at the top then highlight your USB drive in the list and click on properties at the bottom

    Click on change settings:

Then click on the policies tab at the top
and you should have 2 choices:

    Hope this helps!
