Windows 10: Samsung 900X has 100% disk usage and won't let me do anything, except stare at the frozen...

My Samsung 900x Laptop SSD seems to have frozen after a Win10 update process hung. This PC worked perfectly beforehand. I now have the SSD removed in a cady to examine the file structure but would like a pointer as to what best to do before trying (yet again) a Win10 recover/reinstall from a USB stick. A CD of Win10 DVD will not allow me to recover Windows and I have no backups or Restore. I have a SATA HDD with a licensed copy of Win10 from another laptop and when plugged in to the Samsung USB Port, it loads fine and the Pc functions correctly. Should i just format the SSD and start again?
