Windows 10: Samsung boosts performance of Massive MIMO up to 30 percent

Samsung Electronics. Co. Ltd. announced the successful development of a new network technology, Mobility Enhancer, which improves beamforming performance of its Massive MIMO radios up to 30 percent in a mobile environment. The new technology will play a crucial role in improving mobile experiences for users in both 4G and 5G network environments.

Massive MIMO radios are a critical component of 4G and 5G networks, offering a flexible solution to help mobile operators deliver improved coverage and capacity below 6GHz spectrum using 3D beamforming.

Samsung conducted a field trial in its own testbed using its Massive MIMO radio and by adding the new Mobility Enhancer technology, gaining a throughput improvement of up to 30 percent experienced by a walking user.

Mobility Enhancer, powered by Samsungâs AI and advanced signal processing technology, will enable its Massive MIMO radio to improve the accuracy of beamforming towards a moving user for maximized 5G experiences. For instance, with Mobility Enhancer, users can experience boosted performance while they are walking on a street.

Samsung plans to apply Mobility Enhancer to its Massive MIMO radios through a software upgrade offered in the global market this year.

Samsung supports 5G commercial services in the worldâs leading markets, including Korea, the U.S. and Japan. Samsung Shares Massive MIMO Roadmap in New Whitepaper

Massive MIMO, key technology for enhancing 5G network capacity and user experiences, will continue to be essential driver for 5G build-out.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today published a whitepaper titled “Massive MIMO for New Radio”, highlighting the capabilities and benefits of Massive Multi-Input, Multi-Output (MIMO) in 5G NR systems and sharing Samsung’s roadmap for Massive MIMO solutions. The whitepaper presents the various form factors, essential air technologies and development plans, as well as Samsung’s vision for this critical technology essential for 5G build-out.

Why is Massive MIMO a key technology?

With the exponential growth in mobile traffic, the newly deployed 5G solutions must provide fast and stable network connections. Massive MIMO is a major breakthrough in technology which improves the network capacity and the user’s 5G experience. Massive MIMO, outfitted with a large number of antennas, can control the antennas to concentrate the emitted radio signals into a narrow beam focused on a designated user, resulting in a significant improvement in throughput and efficiency while reducing interferences among nearby users.

Samsung leads the Massive MIMO evolution

Samsung provides a wide array of Massive MIMO radio lineup that aim to support all of the globally defined 5G spectrums in mid-band and serve diverse environments and site requirements. In 5G’s initial stage, Samsung Massive MIMO radio featured a slim, lightweight, compact design to ensure easy installation and quick deployment. These specifications were a key driver for Korean operators launching one of the world’s first 5G services in 2019.

Samsung will continue to develop technology that supports a vast array of spectrum with higher capacity. The company will lay the groundwork for more innovations by introducing the next-generation Massive MIMO with enhancements in the latest 3GPP release 16 and 17, as well as Distributed FD-MIMO (Full Dimension MIMO) in the coming years.

MIMO

Hello, So I have Acer E5-573G laptop which has "MU-MIMO" but I can't see any advantages of it. And is MU-MIMO good? Also I have Wi-Fi router with MIMO support(with 2 antennas) and plus my friend who lives next to me has Wi-Fi too and and can I connect
both routers together? connect one laptop to two Wi-Fi networks. Thanks sincerely.
