Windows 10: Samsung Pro is now Samsung EV0

My friend has an AMD 16 core system (with SMT on), 32GB RAM, Asus 570 and the high end 5950x, has a 1Tb TLC EVO NVMe SSD and a Samsung SATA SDD (2Tb) - his entire system in Gen 4 including the ram
can anyone suggest any good brand like WD that still make 3D MLC (2-BIT) drives?
i m aware of the years of testing against TLC and MLC (pro) devices.. but it still doesn't answer my question
his pc was almost 5000 with a 27" 4K 144Hz monitor

off-topic.. with having 16 real cores, would (I think) get better framerate in all games or some games, due to the way threads are handled to each 'logical' core
the sweet spot for gaming has been said to be 8 cores...if it were me!!! i would be trying SMT off so each core its OWN 100%worth of power, where are before your software or windows could be adding thread 0-1 to core 1 and thread 2-3 in core 2 etcetc, - in my book it 8 thread on 4 core getting 400% CPU power would ave done TWICE is as fast if all 4 thread were handed off to ALL the cores (800%) (with 800% to spare!!!) sneaky feeling tells me that is better

850 Pro Samsung


I have a laptop with the 850 Pro installed. Works great and very high performance...especially switching on RAPID in the software. This laptop was Win8.1 and I upgraded to Win 10 Pro. Drive still works great, but RAPID is not implemented (yet!) on Win 10. Switching on RAPID greatly steps up performance on the Samsung SSD drives. I am very disappointed that this feature is not yet available on Win 10. No where in Samsung's website do they discuss when RAPID will be available on 10. It is acknowledged that it does not now work on the o/s.

Do not hesitate to purchase a SSD and I am partial to Samsung, but be aware to this shortcoming regarding Win 10. Clearly Samsung will fix this issue since the Win world is quickly moving toward Win 10 and the computer world is quickly moving toward SSD's. I am just impatient to get my RAPID switch and the big bump in performance back.

 

Samsung 950 Pro M.2 and rapid mode

I have to wholeheartedly disagree with your statement as Samsung never had Rapid Mode support for NVMe drives. And I say that as an owner of a Samsung 950 Pro (512GB) NVMe drive - which was one of their first NVMe releases. And Magician never supported it for Rapid Mode.

Also, the 970 EVO came out at about the same time as the 970 Pro (of which I have two) and Rapid Mode isn't support on those either (Magician 6.1.0, latest version) ....
