    I am posting this in case it helps out anyone else out there experiencing issues updating to 1803 (Creators Update April 2018) on a Samsung Series 9 laptop. Clearly my experience may be different and I have no way of knowing if this might work for anyone else.


    Ever since April 2018 my laptop has periodically attempted to update to the latest release and has failed on every occasion. I had updated all drivers, tried uninstalling virus checkers, run disk scans etc. to no avail.


    Having watched the attempted update for the umpteenth time, on the last occasion I saw the "blue screen" that indicated that a driver, SGDRV64.SYS had caused a violation of non-paged memory.


    Looking into this further, this driver seems to be related to the Phoenix BIOS and goes by the name of "Secureguard" driver.


    I could find little information about what this driver is but it can be found in device manager under "System devices".


    Given I was prepared to undertake a complete clean install, I chanced removing this driver - i.e. Uninstalled it via Device Manager - including deletion of the driver files.


    I then ran the Windows Update again and lo and behold, the installation went through without problem.


    I still have no idea what the real purpose of this driver is/was but I have experienced no issues following its removal or subsequent update to 1803.

    Samsung 9 Series Keyboard Backlight Issue


    I was struggling with this over the past week when I finally upgraded and wanted to pass along how I fixed the problem. I found this PDF on the Samsung site and downloaded the Samsung SW Update listed in step 3.

    Once I installed that all the functionality of my function keys returned. Hope this helps some sad late adopted like me.

    Windows 10 1803 doesn't play nice with some Intel SSDs

    Legit Reviews is reporting that Windows 10 1803 has issues with some Intel SSDs, specifically their 600p series: "When attempting to upgrade to Window 10 April 2018 Update select devices with certain Intel SSDs may enter a UEFI screen reboot or crash repeatedly." Microsoft and/or Intel are working on a fix.
