    Sandboxie and Fall Creators Update

I don't know how many Sandboxie users we have here but there's got to be a few. If you are, and have upgraded W10 to FCU, you should install beta 5.21.6. It was released today. Sandboxie doesn't officially support FCU yet, but based on my personal case use, the beta is working alright.

Personally, all programs and files that run in my computers, run sandboxed every time they run. Basically, the only time I am not using Sandboxie is when the computer is idle or I am updating something. As of right now, I can do everything I do regularly under Sandboxie without any problem. Except running Windows explorer sandboxed (known issue).

So, install the beta over the top, and report issues in the "Windows 10 - Fall Update" thread at the Sandboxie forum. The thread below.

    Sandboxie and Fall Creators Update

Sandboxie beta 5.21.7 has been released, it fully supports W10 Fall Creators Update (and Windows 10 Fast Ring 17017). Installed and tested, I find no regressions on my end. It fixes running Windows explorer sandboxed (known issue). I am able to run explorer sandboxed via sandboxed shortcut or by right clicking folder. Either way works fine. All programs I run sandboxed and all fuctions I do sandboxed are working fine using this version in W10 FCU. This version is a Release candidate. *Smile

Changes in 5.21.7 -- Release Candidate
    1) Added full Support for Windows 10 Creator's Fall Update (and Windows 10 Fast Ring 17017).
    2) Fixed an issue causing Windows Explorer to become non-responsive for 5+ minutes in Windows Fall Creator's update
    3) Created a template to address "SBIE2101" issues caused by Windows Defender "App & Browser Control" in Windows 8.1 and 10. This needs to be added manually by right-clicking on your Sandbox ---> Sandbox Settings --> Applications ---> Miscellaneous ---> Windows SmartScreen [The template will be added automatically in future versions of Sandboxie].
5.21 Beta Available (latest version 5.21.7 -- Release Candidate) - Sandboxie Support

5.21.7 appears to be a nice version, you can run it over the top. Link above includes changes, improvements and the installers.

I used to use Sandboxie a coupe of years ago but all of a sudden it started to act a little wonky and wouldn't work right so I deleted it and went back to using the built in containment in my Comodo firewall.

I liked Sandboxie alot when it worked.......So this is good to know......I might have to give it a try again!

If all you were doing sandboxed was run your browser in the sandbox, and all the sudden things didnt work properly anymore, like the browser not opening when you click to run it, and you dont set the sandbox to delete automatically on closing the sandboxed browser, then usually all you have to do to fix your issue is delete the sandbox manually. So, you don't want to run an updated version of a browser in a sandbox that contains old content from a previous version. Sometimes, not always, doing that can cause issues.

If your browser has been running perfectly fine in the sandbox for sometime, no freezing or something like that, and all of the sudden your browsing becomes unstable, thats usually an addon thats causing it or a conflict with the addon that causes it. It could also be caused by an update to the AV, thats usually solved by another update to the AV.

But anyway, as of right now, I think Comodo is getting along well with Sandboxie. If you like to try Sandboxie again, installation takes 15 seconds, disable your AV temporarily to make sure it doesn't interfere with the installation of the Sandboxie driver. To avoid conflicts, disable the Comodo sandbox. You might have to add Sandboxies exes found in Sandboxies folder in Programs files to Comodo's Exclusion list.

If you don't mind using Windows defender, you don't have to do nothing regarding compatibility. Sandboxie and Windows defender get along perfectly well. Last time there was an issue between both programs was in MSE1 about 7 or 8 years ago. I don't use an AV but tested WD in FCU with Sandboxie for about 36 hours. No issue, all things felt the same with or without AV, and I run all programs that run in my computer sandboxed, not only the browsers. If and when you try Sandboxie again, think of WD, I have been recommending WD for many years to people who use Sandboxie and AV, the reason being because they are good companions and with the setup, WD takes care of know malware and Sandboxie handles threats that are unknown to WD. Nice and light combo that works.

Well Bo I took your advice and have just updated to FCU and I do use WD with Comodo firewall and just installed the latest version of Sandboxie 5.21.7 and all seems to be running great.

And I will set my Sandboxie controls to delete upon closing the browser as per your suggestions......Thanks for all your help!

Bo I have a little problem or inconvenience if you will that I can't figure out.....When I close firefox sandboxed with sandboxie comodo comes up and says that "CMD.EXE" is trying to change my browser settings and it offers me 2 choices either keep settings as is or let it change them(To what I have no idea)....I did not know which to pick so over time I have tried both but to no avail it keeps coming up every time I close my browser....Doesn't happen if browser is not sandboxed.....Otherwise everything is working great.

I checked into CMD.EXE and it seems like it's a Microsoft file and I don't know if I actually need it or not....So any help on this would be much appreciated!

    Hi munk, try :

    Open Comodo Firewall, Advanced Settings>Security Settings> Defence+>HIPS>HIPS Settings>Detect shellcode injections>Exclusions>Add:

Add the Sandboxie folder in Programs files
or (better, I think) the following Sandboxie executables that are found inside the Sandboxie folder in Program files:
    Start.exe
    License.exe
    SandboxieBITS.exe
    SandboxieCrypto.exe
    SandboxieDcomLaunch.exe
    SandboxieRpcSs.exe
    SandboxieWUAU.exe
    SbieCtrl.exe
    SbieIni.exe
    SbieSvc.exe

If you still get the cmd.exe message after excluding the Sandboxie exes, try excluding also the exe for the browser you are running sandboxed. Are you running anything else other than the browser in the sandbox? Please post an screen of the message.

I never seen any cmd.exe message while running anything sandboxed but is not uncommon to see it when using Comodo along SBIE. Hopefully all will be OK after adding the exclusions. The workaround has worked for other users.

After taking a hard look at all the Comodo advanced settings I came down to "Advanced protection" and in that is Virus scope & Miscellaneous and in Miscellaneous is three check boxes and the last one is "Show alerts in case any other software attempts to modify current settings of installed browsers".

I just unchecked that box and problem solved.......I appreciate all your suggestions and help with this!
