Windows 10: sata3 to usb-a adapters & hard dirve enclosure not working

So this might be a long post but here we go:

A while ago I replaced my hard drive in my laptop with an ssd. I bought a hard drive enclosure and used it as an external hard drive. About a month ago it stopped working and I didn't think much about it, I just thought the enclosure broke and was gonna buy another one.

Now I borrowed a sata3 to usb adapter and tried to put some files on the hard drive and it still didn't recognise it. The adapter was working a few months ago but now that isn't working either. I tried with a different adapter and the same problem. I also tried using different cables for the enclosure - mini usb to usb a and no result.

With all the adapters the disk turned on, it was spinning but not outputing anything, the light on the enclosure us workingas well ( https://imgur.com/a/cKDQ7Ta ).I tried two other disks and the same problem occured. I plugged it in different usb ports, same problem. Alhough when I tried plugging it in my laptop it gave me an error ( https://imgur.com/a/oiNwAQA ). Sorry for the language but it says "USB device not recognised. Usb device that was last plugged into the computer did not work correctly, that's why Window can't recognise it. Recomendation: Try reconnecting the device, if Windows still doesn't recognise it, it might not be working correctly.". I tried doing as they recommended and with different adapters but still the same problem.

I thought it might have had something to do with Windows so I plugged it in a Linux laptop, It started spinning but no answer. I also tried pluging it into the TV but the same answer and for the phone (android) as well. That made me think that there might actually be something wrong with the disk so I plugged it into the mobo directly via sata and it worked (https://imgur.com/a/Vath1zV , it was also working correctly in windows).

I have no clue what else could be causing this, unless both adapters and enclosure are broken.

Hi Anup,

The Windows 10 Control Panels' Defragment and Optimize drives feature is not a part of the File History.

Therefore, attempting to restore the file history to fix issue of external SATA3 to USB 3.0 SSD listed as a hard disc drive

would be pointless.

Since everything with the external 512GB Crucial MX100 SATA3 to USB 3.0 SSD works correctly I'll leave well enough alone for now and wait for Microsoft to roll out their second Windows 10 fixes. This issue is obviously caused by

one of the Windows 10 updates so hopefully Microsoft will have a future fix for this issue.

Hard Drive Enclosure

Hello. Is it possible to access files from a hard drive from an old laptop onto my new laptop the same you can access files using a flash drive? Not sure how else I can put it, but I have a hard drive from an old laptop that is inside a hard drive enclosure.
I have the enclosure connected to my laptop via usb, but I am not seeing an option to access that hard drive. How can I access the hard drive that's connected to the usb hard drive enclosure?

Bluetooth adapter (despite the fact that I've never used it and have no Bluetooth devices). I reinstalled and/or

fixed all three ASUS G751JY notebook Windows 10 drivers successfully. However, the external 512GB Crucial MX100

SATA3 to USB3.0 SSD remains listed as hard disc drive on Windows 10 Defragment and Optimize drives feature.

I also tried your second suggestion and ran the DISM using Command Prompt (Admin.).

It returned a Windows 10 latest build 100% system image health. The external 512GB Crucial MX100 SATA3 to USB3.0

SSD still comes up as a hard disc drive in Defragment and Optimize drives Windows 10, Control Panel feature.
