Windows 10: Save button in customize icon settings doesnt save

I am trying to customize my download folder icon. Every time I press Save after picking out one of the windows icons listed, it does not save. Instead, the settings revert immediately back to the boring manilla folder icon. I am on x64-bit Windows 10.

In order to assist you better, I would like to know the following queries:

What happens when you customize your Desktop icons?

How long does it retains it positions? Does it change on restart?



I suggest you to try the methods below and check if it helps.



Method 1:

I would suggest you to try the steps and check if it helps.

• Right-click on the desktop and click on View.
• Uncheck the option Align icons to grid.
• Check if the issue persists.

Method 2:

If the issue persists, I would suggest you to boot the computer to
Safe Mode and check if the issue occurs or not. If the issue does not occur in
Safe mode, set the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

Step 2:

If the issue do not occur in Safe Mode perform a
clean boot and check.

Setting the system in a clean boot state will help to identify if any
third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

Saving custom desktop icon positions

Thanks for responding. The icons stay where I put them until I refresh or restart. Unchecking Align Icons to Grid does not solve the issue. Nothing
happened when I pressed F4 or F5 so I had to shut down and therefore wasn't able to restart in safe mode.

Looks like I'll end up taking my system back to the Geeks (45 ml drive) to see if they can remedy my issue.

The reason why the website is not asking you to save your log in information is because a cookie has already been saved to your Internet Explorer for that website. We suggest clearing your browser data for the pop up message to appear again. Follow the steps
below to clear your browser data:

• Click the Tools button (gear icon) on the upper-right corner of the Internet Explorer window and select
  Internet Options.
• In the General tab, select Delete button under
  Browsing history section.
• Check all the boxes and click Delete.
