1. Save your windows 10 Preview Drivers and Save the Hassle Later

My laptop has a Windows 8.0 OEM key in the BIOS. I'm running 8.1 Pro though with Media Center though. That's three keys to pick from. If they use the 8.0 key I'll only get 10 Home. Use the 8.1 Pro key and I get 10 Pro. if I were to upgrade to the TP right now I would get the Pro version. What does a clean install get me? See where I'm going with this. *Wink It should be easy but it could be complicated.

Seriously, though, it should work highest backward, LIFO, last key (highest) should be the "give up" key. Therefore, you get 10 Pro.

4. Save your windows 10 Preview Drivers and Save the Hassle Later

Both of my laptops have OEM 8.0 keys and both are running 8.1 Pro via my TechNet keys. Logic would say that Microsoft should use the 8.1 Pro keys and give me 10 Pro. We'll just have to wait and see though.

5. Yes I agree. My point was, if you clean install, is it Home or Pro, and what version do you get when you upgrade to the RTM? If it installs Home, and you may miss out on a chance to get the pro version. It's only just recently that I noticed it saying 10 Home or 10 Pro. The early builds just said Windows 10.

Do you know for certain which one is flashed in your BIOS? Either lappy? When I use Produkey (Nirsoft) it says "BIOS"....

7. I use showkey, https://www.tenforums.com/software-ap...7-showkey.html it lists the BIOS key, original key, and installed key. For my laptop those would be the 8.0 OEM key, the 8.1 Pro key and the Media Center key.

EDIT: Both laptops came with 8.0 Core. One of the first things I did after becoming an MVP was use add features to upgrade to Pro. Then when the free Media center offer was out there I got keys for that and used add features again. Those media center keys also work in 8.1.

Any word about the Media Center Upgrade with 10
If 8 / 8.1 Pro with media Center = 10 Pro with media Center ??

10. Media Center is a casualty of the Win10 upgrade. Current status is that it will not carry over.

Yeah, the Get Windows 10 app actually states it will be uninstalled during the upgrade, if you currently have it installed. I have Media Center on this PC and that's what it says.

Information requiring your attention.
Keep this in mind before you upgrade.
Windows Media Center will be uninstalled during the upgrade. It isn't available in Windows 10.
Worth saying that this doesn't work with the /online parameter (at least it didn't when I tried it). It seems you need to do it with Windows offline (eg. booting with a WinPE USB) with something like this:
Code: dism /image:c: /add-driver /driver:d:\Drivers /recurse
Although drive letters will probably be different to this -they probably won't be C: and D:
