Saving files locally only and not on OneDrive

I don't want to access my files on any other device. For now, I want all my files stored locally on my PC. I've disabled backup to OneDrive and now all I have in my local Documents folder is a shortcut called "Where are my files" which links to OneDrive. All I want to do is disable autosynching and only save files to my local PC. I have tried unlinking my PC, but I've still not been able to have all my files save to my local drive. How can I stop autosynching and save all my files back to my local PC?TIA.

    :)

  2. Saving files locally only?

OK, thank you for clarifying that for me, Henry. There is a way to save a Word/Excel file online to your computer.

    1. Click on File on the upper left-hand corner.
    2. Click on Save As.
    3. Click on Download a Copy.

This option would allow you to save the file locally onto your computer. However, the word/excel file will still automatically save to your OneDrive, but you can discard it once the file is onto your computer. I hope this helps. Please let me know if this works for you.

  3. Utilities that I run can no longer automatically save files to my OneDrive

    Hi Alan,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To set OneDrive as your default location to save your documents and files, follow the below steps.

    1. Click on the OneDrive icon from the Taskbar area > Click on the menu button (three-dots) on the top-right corner > Click on
Settings > Go to the Auto Save tab.
    2. Using the drop-down menu, select OneDrive for
      Desktop
, Documents, and Pictures and click on
      OK.
    3. Once you complete the above steps, restart the computer once and try saving the files generated from utilities and check if it is saving in
      C:\Users\myname\OneDrive\Documents folder.

If you are still facing the same issue, then I suggest you to contact OneDrive support for further assistance on this issue by following the below steps.

    • Login to
      https://onedrive.com/
      .
    • Click the ? Help icon on the top banner of the page.
    • Select Email OneDrive support for the further assistance.
