    Scam or legit?

    8-23-19

Received call today from a guy stating he was from MSN by name of Addi Wilson. He said he was a Senior System Engineer.

Stated I have numerous viruses, malware and 3 episodes of someone trying to hack into system. Seemed legit to me so I gave him access to my computer. He found over 27,000 items showing viruses, malware, etc, and also the 3 episodes of hacking. He even told me where the people trying to do the hacking were from. He said if these were not cleaned up it could cause my computer to crash--so I allowed him to do it. I asked what the cost would be and he said $300 for 5 years protection warranty which included antivirus, anti hacking security, c cleaner, email protection, unlimited free services both hardware and software. He did not want my credit card info, but asked that I purchase a Game Stop gift card to pay for this. I was to call him back and give the numbers on the card when I purchased it. That seemed very strange to me. Has anyone else had this happen?? I have until Monday when he is to call me back and I am to purchase the Game Stop card. Please advise.

    :)

  3. Scam or legit call?

    Hi PaulFroehlich1 ,

Microsoft will NEVER ever call. It is not legit, do not give them any info, or let them in your computer. Just hang up.

    Hope this helps.

This sounds almost reasonable since I turned off auto updates b/c every time I get updates...
