  1. "Scan drive for error" Windows 10 become unresponsive

I've been facing this problem for the last 1 month, I have tried several things to fix this issue but its not working.
My laptop becomes very very slow and unresponsive when the notification "scan drive for error" appear.

I'm facing problem with Drive F which is not even the main drive. I've stored photos, files, videos, games etc...

    Things I've tried,

    1. I have tried all the chkdsk command I could find on the internet for fixing the drive
    2. I have tried sfc

    3. I have completely reinstalled windows kept my files

    4. I have tried reset this PC option
    5. I thought to defragment & optimize the drive F , but couldn't find it in the list other drives are there
    6. I was thinking to format the drive but when I tried to copy my data to another drive it wasn't copying anything

After applying the chkdsk commands my computer was okay for few days okay means it wasn't slowing down and it wasn't unresponsive , but then the scan drive for error notification came and it was the same as before.

One thing I need to mention when the notification comes and computer become unresponsive If I wait for5-10 minutes I can use my computer again. And as long as I don't try to access the drive F, I can keep using my computer. But some files are very important on that drive and I need to use them frequently for my day to day life.

Before I tried Reset this PC option I was using the latest windows version. Now it went back to 1903

    Please help me!

    :)

Error: problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it when connecting an HD drive

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To get a clear picture of the issue, we will need the following details:

    • When exactly are you receiving the error message?
    • Have you tried connecting the drive to any other USB port?
    • Are you able to access the drive on any other computer?
    • What is the make and model of the computer and the HD drive?

In the meantime, I suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:

You can scan the drive for errors by following the steps mentioned below and see if that helps:

    1. Press Windows key + E, to open
      File Explorer
      .
    2. Click on This PC on the left pane.
    3. Right click on the HD Drive and select
      Properties.
    4. Click on Tools tab, under
      Error Checking
click on Check. This will scan the drive for error and fix them.
Note: If any bad sectors are found on the hard drive while Windows try to repair the sectors, data on the sectors might be lost.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.

Windows defender custom scan does not scan external drives

I have Defender Windows 10. I tried using custom scan to select and scan external drives. The screen listing the drives comes up, but the "OK" button remains grayed out so unable to scan any of the drives listed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

"Scan drive for error" Windows 10 become unresponsive

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
