  1. Scanning and repairing drive loop

My PC crashed out of no where last night, I was very tired so I left it on to do whatever it needed to do. When I woke up, it was stuck on a “Reboot from boot drive or insert boot media” message, but I needed to go to work so rather sillily I turned it off and went. Now when I turn it on, the ASUS logo appears as usual, then Scanning and Repairing drive, which is always at 100%, that stays for about 5 seconds, before “Configuring Windows Update” for about 30 seconds, then restarting until the process repeats. I’ve tried booting from different drives using F8 but it only works from the SSD it

Scanning and repairing drive on every start-up

Recently, I had a start-up error with the "Reboot and select proper Boot device" message. I fixed it by unplugging and then plugging back in my drives, but since then it has been slow with starting up Windows, attempting to scan and repair an unknown drive before the login screen.

I need help to figure out which disk it is referring to and how to get rid of the scan and repair thing on start-up.

Windows Version Number: 1903 (OS Build 18362.900)

(Link to the previous thread: Scanning and repairing drive on every start-up
Tried the things listed there, but couldn't get much further. Was suggested to start this new thread...)

Scanning and repairing drive (CScanning and repairing drive loop :) Windows 10

    Hi,

Windows 10 may have encountered a system file corruption after it was turned off while it was scanning and repairing drive (CScanning and repairing drive loop :). For us to help you access your computer and end the scanning and repairing loop, we suggest that you perform a startup repair.
    Kindly follow the steps below:

    • Start your computer from the installation media, Insert the DVD or USB flash drive and restart your computer. Press a key once you see a message that says
Press any key to boot from DVD.
    • On Install the Windows screen, select Repair your computer to the
      Windows Recovery Environment.
    • On the Windows Recovery Environment, on the Choose an option screen, select
      Troubleshoot
      .
    • Select Advanced options. Under Advanced options, select
      Startup Repair.
    • Startup Repair will now start Diagnosing your PC, and will perform an automatic repair.

Meanwhile, if you don't have a disk or USB, download the ISO from a different computer and try creating a bootable disk or USB. Kindly refer to this

    link
and follow the second option that says Using the tool to create installation media to install Windows 10 on a

    Automatic Repair Loop

    Hi,

Unsuccessful installation of an update could be a possible cause why you are experiencing the automatic repair loop. To address this concern, we suggest running the Startup Repair tool using your bootable USB. This tool can scan and repair damaged system
files. Follow these steps to run the Startup Repair tool:

    • Insert the bootable USB and boot Windows 10 from it.
    • In the Windows Setup page, select the language to install, Time and currency format and the keyboard or input method and click on Next.
    • Click on Repair your computer and select Troubleshoot.
    • Click on Advanced options and select Automatic Repair and select the operating system. You might also require changing the boot priority in BIOS in order to allow the computer to boot from CD/DVD.

Important: While scanning the hard drive if any bad sectors are found, the scanner tries to repair that sector, any data available on that might be lost.

Note: Modifying BIOS settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications
of the settings are at your own risk.

Keep us updated about the result.
