Main folder on DOK turns to shortcut on windows 10

I ran the antivirus (both of them), found viruses, deleted them, scanned the flash drive which was clean, and still problem not solved. Still have shortcuts for every new folder on the flash drive, even on a new flash drive, and another friend with windows
    10 reported similar problem.

    Help?

Do you have any av program installed? If you do WD will be disabled by default as the av software takes charge. With only WD running you would open up WD and select the custom scan option typically seen with most av and security programs. You then click on the Scan now option and select the flash drive by the letter assigned to it and click the ok button to start the scan.

With most av softwares the option to see the automatic scan when plugging in any new drive or device will typically see a prompt asking to scan or not appear. You confirm the scan by clicking the ok button for the particular program installed. With some you can even disable the automatic scan option when using a few flash drives or devices and not sharing files between systems or saving downloads to any of them.

    scanning flash drive for problems

What the immunization does is it locks the run.inf file so that it stops viruses from spreading.

  10. That's good to hear! Another option I take whenever in doubt while the av program already heavily screens every download before I can even copy any over to a flash drive is simply reformatting them if in doubt!

When first bought new I nuke the Fat volunes off of them completely and put on a fresh NTFS volumer if not put to use for something like a Recovery Drive where the tool does that automatically as far as preparation for data sticks. Fat volumes are outdated and too vulnerable while some devices still requires them like digital cameras and cell phones with camera options.

And viruses, malwares often come in executables more so then inf files. These days they come in all forms! This is why having an effective firewall as well as av program and web filtering will add the additional layers of security you want. In fact the av program just set up on a 10 VM that is now activated as well being an Insider Preview type build on the initial run flagged the SIW Pro trial setup.exe file as a trojan and quarantined it on the spot! SIW(System Information for Windows) is an old freeware that provides a complete breakdown on the programs you have installed as well as listing every hardware which can help when looking things up like newer drivers. And that got locked up!

Same for one old pc game's main exe file when having to reinstall the av showing it as the "overprotective nanny" but you won't mind that as much as seeing something get through! You know your system protections are good when you start seeing that happen! But nothing is ever 100% fail proof regardless and removable media of any type needs to be watched.
